So far works fine.
don't know how accurate it is but I'm not a meteorologist so it doesn't need to be. Just wanted a general idea of how much rain we have gotten without having to go outside to empty it. Can't beat the the price. Ignore the bad reviews, I did and was not sorry.

Can't go lower than one star
Unfortunately I've found that any weather instrument manufactured by Chaney Instruments is a total waste of money. Sold as AcuRite these gauges look nice but consistently fail to perform for more than a few months, if that. And the customer service will only send "troubleshooting" instructions that are already listed in the manual as a reply - then the next step is to waste even more money so you can ship the item back to their quality assurance for "inspection & testing". If their quality assurance was reliable then I wouldn't have the product problems to begin with. Of course this is my own personal opinion, but if you choose to buy their products, then all I can say is "Sorry".

Love this little "set up", works great!

Verified purchase

Takes 2AA batteries for the indoor part of this 2-part gauge, and 2AA batteries for the outdoor collection (self-emptying) container. Keeps a history of daily rains, has alarms for 1) heavy rain and 2) flood altet. Very accurate, down to the hundreth's of an inch. I am very pleased with this and would reccommend it to family and friends.

Great companion to the AcuRite digital indoor-outdoor wireless thermometer I've had in use bedside for a couple of years. Not available at our so-called SuperCenter in AR but, once again, found and purchased direct via the WalMart web pages.

Very pleased

This was a gift for my mother and they had this to say: It was easy to set up and begin using. Wish it monitored snowfall. Wish it had temperature readout. Parents are never pleased. Their previous rain gauge was a plastic test-tube style rain gauge. Welcome to the modern era...

Mine Works Great

My AcuRite rain gauge is working great. Be sure to follow all directions about placement. Remember, the display only updates every minute or so, no matter how much rainfall the sensor is detecting. Every tilt of the mechanism (and self-dumping) registers 0.02 inches of rain. However, it can be recalibrated with adjustment screws inside the gauge. So, now at least, everyone should know that this rain gauge can work just fine and for the price, its a great value.

AcuRite Products: A Waste of Time & Money

AcuRite products are a waste of time and money. I bought the AcuRite wireless rain gauge (model #00875W) from Wal Mart and it would not register any rain. I returned this model and purchased a different AcuRite wireless rain gauge (model #00891A1) from Home Depot. This model wouldn't allow the base unit to connect to the rain bucket sensor. This too was returned. After all this I checked with AcuRite's web page and found page after page of complaints for these and other similar issues with their products. I'll never waste my time or money on an AcuRite product again. I previously had a LaCrosse Technology (The Weather Channel) wireless rain gauge that worked fine for over five years. I sure wish Wal Mart would start selling those again!

1. Hi ray, On model 00875, the rain collector is normally mounted with screws to a level fence post or surface above the ground for the best results. Thank you.

3. Out in the open....on a level surface (use a level)...at least three feet off the ground and within about 50 feet of the display. Don't forget to unclip the bottom of the collector and put two batteries in there under the tilting mechanism. (It unclips, also)

4. outside on a level surface. It should be in the open where it is not covered. I put mine on the front railing of my deck. Be sure to screw it down so it stays put in the wind.

1. there are clips. it snaps out underneath..the rain just runs thru & registers automatically baccigalupe

2. The water runs over a cup like meter and toggles back and forth as it fills and dumps water. The spoon is calibrated to hold a predetermined amount so it knows how much rain fell by how many times it dumps the water out. Shake it and you'll hear the cup moving.

3. Two of the four batteries are in the sensor (collector) and the other two are in the display......4 total. You'll have to remove the bottom from the collector to get the batteries in there. Press in on the clips near the bottom. After that, the "teeter totter" part also has to be lifted off. You'll find the battery compartment underneath this.

4. check the directions first. It shows how to install the Batteries! two in the inside unit and two in the collector, the collector has to be opened and unpacked. It comes down to three parts. the outside cover the the collector/sending unit and the base that you should screw down (screws come with the unit) then put the 2 batt. in the bottom of the collector/sending unit. snap together and be sure to remove the sponge rubber packing from the sending unit under the cups. then replace the cover. Mount the unit some where in the open on a level spot, If you have a rear deck, try the front railing It has to be mounted where the rain can get to it from all sides!

5. Read the instruction sheet that came with the unit. 2 batteries go in indoor unit and 2 in outdoor unit.

6. 2 batteries go in the indoor display unit. The other 2 batteries go in the outside rain collector. The rain collector housing comes off by pressing the tabs in. Inside that cover is the actually rain collector which tips and empties when it fills. there are 2 more tabs at the bottom of that part and pressing those tabs in reveals the location for the other 2 batteries.

1. The typical battery life will be about 1.5 years. There are many variables that can impact battery life. Battery life is impacted by excessive heat and/or cold, how long batteries have been inactive / on the shelf prior to use, battery chemistry, the installation environment (temperature average and fluctuations) and more.

2. I live in Missouri so I bring the unit inside before the first freeze and back out in the spring. I install good quality alkaline fresh batteries each spring. It operates from March to October on same batteries.

3. Several months in my experience. Change all 4 at same time, sender and receiver. In cold weather get premium-premium batteries which do not lose much power with decreasing temperature.
