I do have a desktop computer as well. I would be using the acer about 50% of the time. Mainly on the internet to attend seminars and also microsoft word. I will also need to create and view power points. I do not want to invest money in a larger laptop. Would the Acer Aspire One A150 be able to perform the tasks required?

    • A. I run the full office 2003 suite and all programs function just fine. I would recommend staying away from Occie 2007 for this machine.

    • A. Despite the smallish keyboard I don't see why not. Also I would look into Openoffice.org, its a free software that rivals office in many ways, and comes standard on the linux version of the aspire one. It also uses the same filetypes as office, so you can open openoffice documents in microsoft word and vice versa.

    • A. It will handle PPT presentations easily. Remember, it has a small screen. It may be a good idea to go into your local Wal Mart for a preview first.

    • A. I think this should be an OK laptop to use for college, but you need to remember that the trackpad and keyboard are smaller then regular (about 85% actual size), but you win with a big hard drive, light weight, and about 5.5 hours of battery life! I would DEFIANTLY recommend this laptop!

    • A. Yes, it should do just fine, tho for the PP stuff you'll need a larger monitor. You can easily plug in yer desktop's screen and off you go.

Love it! Small, lightweight, easy to use. LOCK the batter on, don't forget to LOCK the battery on. if the battery is not locked and you port it around like I do by the battery you will lose it. I almost did and thank goodness it only fell on my lap, LOCK the battery on! It does not snap into place like all my other ones with the option of the lock, on this one it is a must - the lock is the snap here. Love the 2 sd slots. I bought from walmart.com and the description said it had xp pro, I have since noticed they have corrected that listing and now reads xp home, and that is exactly what I got, that was a downer but can easily be upgraded. Overall satisfied but I have had it for only a little over a week. Time will tell. I recommend when you register it you get the 2 year extended warranty from Acer for $99, this will put you up to 3 years coverage on this little guy/gal. Oh yeah, this acer is all about the google, google desktop looks like a vista wanna be, but works well especially if you have a google account. The blue shows fingerprints and smuges very well. Enjoy.

Bought this for my 12 year old daughter who wanted a laptop all year but I didn't want to spend $600+ for a child so young. Let me tell you I think it's awesum. Probably would have gotten one for myself if I had'nt gotten myself a new full size one this past year, but may just be my next laptop. So small and portable, I think this could be the future for alot of laptop users. Screen is small but you get used to it quickly. No disc drive but I really don't think alot of people including myself need one. Has two card readers, an SD and a multi and four usb ports. Windows XP was always a great operating system and still is. I highly recomend this system. I think the market's really gonna heat up for mini's. Two things... whatever it's made of does greatly show smudges and fingerprints, which bothers her a little but I don't think would bother me that much. Second, I bought the one with the six cell battery which does look quite bulbus on the back end but she gets many hours out of it.

I bought this netbook to be a school computer, as it is very portable and has almost everything I need for school. It boots up quickly, and the screen is bright and, while small, takes very little time to get used to. The keyboard is almost full-sized and takes a little more time to get used to than the screen, but does not cause me any problems. On the downside, the touch pad is a bit awkward. The left and right click buttons are too small to hit without looking, and there is no easy way to scroll down a webpage without using the arrow keys. All of these problems can be solved with an external mouse, so these complaints aren't serious. The only major setback to the Acer Aspire One is its lack of an optical drive. I miss being able to stick a CD or DVD while I'm working. Again, this can be solved by an external optical drive, but those tend to get a bit pricey. Other than that, I have no complaints and am enjoying my new computer very much.

I purchased this for my wife and she absolutely loves it (and she really dosen't care about things like this)! But this computer is her baby because it's "cute" and fits in her purse! Bottom Line: It's small, but fast, with a very bright display and the battery life is excellent. The wireless connection is as good if not stronger than any of our state- of- the- art laptops. And last but not least, Walmart 's price is Excellent and their Customer Service is Great!!!! Thanks A million for making this online purchase easy and fast. JD

Pros: Lightweight, crystal clear glossy screen (1280x600 max resolution), mini standard laptop-layout keyboard with Fn key and cursors; no odd-shaped or misplaced keys like Dell Mini-9, easy wireless network detection or RJ45 for 10/100 cable/DSL/network, express slot to upgrade memory or video, combo memory card reader (will not read mini-SD, Sony, or CF cards without an adapter). 160gb HD is median at $40 over the 120gb version price ($1 per gig). Weighs 2.8 lbs. Comes with a feaux leather slip cover. Slips in to a LARGE pocket (my coat's inner pocket). 1 year manufacturer's warrenty on parts only. Consumer pays shipping and/or labor. VGA output on left side. Built in 1.3mp net camera and microphone in screen bezel. Cons: Mouse buttons are on left and right side of the touchpad; easy to adjust to in 10 minutes though, barely 2.5 hours of battery life at highest brightness settings without going to sleep; not good for flights 3+ hours long, can not buy an additional battery, no OEM DC car adapter <yet> to keep manufacturers warrenty valid. Heats quickly on left side of keyboard while in your lap because of tiny vent slots; but this is a gripe of all laptop users as well. At least it has an internal fan to circulate. My A-One did not come with any restore/reinstallation CDs. (see below) Notes: General: This netbook more than exceeds my initial expectations. Intel Atom 1.6ghz is a definate diamond in the micro-microprocessing rough. First 45nm heirarchy in the public sector. Get an external USB DVD +-R/RW drive. You can thank me later. Entertainment: Installed both World of Warcraft: WotLK and Lord of the Ring Online: MoM (very graphics intense games) on it, and they run seamlessly at bare minimum settings. No lag until highly populated environments like pvp or major cities. My wife took my A-One to game at break time, so I had to buy another for my own work!!! Comes with 3rd party DVD playback software which is funny because no DVD or CD drive is included. Productivity: Works very well with Open Office, MS Office and even Photoshop; but would not recommend any cad or other high-end graphics programs. Windows XP home is pre-installed, but if you can install Vista. You will need to find and download the drivers for graphics, wireless adapter, and ethernet adapter to a thumb drive though. DO NOT remove the restore sector unless you plan on keeping the drivers handy, and have a bootable windows ISO on a thumbdrive. You can install Ubuntu or Redhat with little-to-no hardware capatability concern.
