A woman she's never met reveals that she and Emmie shared the same husband and that the bigamist had never divorced his first wife. The home and farm are not Emmie's property after all. Suddenly displaced and powerless, Emmie realizes she can't stay in Wabash, Indiana, any longer. She makes for Fort Laramie, Wyoming, whereher friend Sarah Montgomery and a new beginning await her. But when she arrives, she discovers she's carrying a child, conceived before her husband's death. Was the new start she'd hoped for only a mirage? A Heart's Betrayal

"A Heart's Betrayal" ... The year is 1866, the place is Wabash, Indiana. Emmie Courtney's life looked perfect, until the death of a loved one turned life upside-down. The War between the states is over and everyone is celebrating. We are presently on book #4, of the `Journey of the Heart` monthly series. Author Colleen Coble wonderfully details the vast array of scenery. It's difficult to follow the storyline month-month, as each novel publishes. I believe longer novels are best for reviews. Otherwise, it seems the reader just gets to the point and the storyline ends, til next time. However, I do recommend these books to readers who like Christian fiction or those interested in the reconstruction of the U.S. Disclaimer: I received `A Heart's Betrayal` complimentary for review.

Great Novella

A Heart's Betrayal is the fourth novella in The Journey of the Heart series by Colleen Coble. I love reading Colleen Coble's books, but not a fan of novellas until I started reading this novella series! In this latest installment we read about Emmie Croftner, the sister of Ben Croftner (the villain of this series), and she is in trouble. Emmie's husband is killed in an accident and when Emmie goes to his home to claim the home and the other things she inherited, she finds out that He already had a wife, so Emmie has no claim to any of the properties. Emmie knows she can't stay in Indiana so she decides to head to Fort Laramie, Wyoming where her friend Sarah is, hoping to find a fresh start, but after she gets there she finds out she is pregnant with her "husbands" child. I loved reading about Emmie and her continued story. It was nice to see more characters in this book. Rand and Sarah are still part of this book but Emmie's story takes the front seat! This book still keeps you guessing until the end and leaves you at a cliff hanger. I really did enjoy this installment and look forward to reading the rest! I enjoy the historical aspects of this book and the whole series! Colleen Coble is definitely an expert on this time in history and the US during this time. This book definitely kept me engaged from start to finish, leaving me anxious for the next installment. I look forward to the rest of the novellas in this series! I give this book 4 STARS.

Short but Sweet

This next installment in the Journey of the Heart series is short and sweet. Remember these are novellas so they go quick. Just when you're getting into it it's over. Kind of like a mini-series. I do wish it were longer but I'm enjoying the story and the journey. There is so much more to know about Emmie and Isaac and their back stories. Oh well. Thankfully there is another installment coming soon. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Good Story

I really liked this latest novella in the Journey of the Heart series. It is book four of the series and can stand alone, but it is even better when read after the first three novellas. Poor Emmie! This book's title truly does reflect what has happened to her. She has been betrayed in one of the worst ways. Played the fool and now feeling ostracized, she chooses to make the journey to Wyoming to hopefully begin again. This novella does not have as much danger or suspense as books two and three. It is primarily the story of Emmie trying to start over after her heart has been crushed. Overwhelmed with what has happened to her, she decides that she can't risk opening herself up to another man. I think the author did a very good job of portraying the betrayal, the embarrassment, and the feelings of helplessness that Emmie finds herself dealing with. I am really looking forward to book five in the series. My thanks to the publisher for the complimentary copy of this book that I received through Litfuse Publicity in exchange for an honest review.

Interesting Historical!

I liked this story about a girl who discovers she's been betrayed and goes west as her only option. I liked Emmie and felt sorry for her. I can't imagine what it would have been like to not have options and head west into the unknown. It was nice to see Sarah and Rand again and see where their lives have taken them. There's some setup for a romance brewing between Emmie and Isaac, though Emmie doesn't want to trust a man ever again. When she discovers she's pregnant, she figures no one will ever want her now. She also struggles with believing God cares about her. It was interesting learning more about the Native American situation at the time. If you like historical fiction, you might want to check it out. I received this book free from Litfuse Publicity in exchange for an honest review.
