Could you please tell me if the pedals are metal or plastic? Thank you.

    • A. The body of the pedals is advertised as "resin" and [of course] it looks like plastic. The "cage" that surrounds the resin body is metal/steel [attracts a magnet]. As an aside, the most disappointing parts of this bike, to me, were the saddle and pedals. The saddle I replaced within days with a Cloud-9 Comfort Suspension. I still have the original pedals, but they just don't rotate freely. On the plus side, they are very strong...I'm 240-plus pounds, and frequently stand on one pedal [guess the crank arms & whole bottom bracket assembly are also strong].

    • A. The pedals are metal on the outermost points where the teeth are, the perimeter is metal. The bolt that threads the pedal to the crank arm is metal. I would guess that the shaft in the center of the pedal is metal covered in plastic, based on the bolt and outer edge being metal.

    • A. The pedals are metal, painted or coated black, and they have some traction teeth that stick up about a quarter inch from the open cage platform surface. The cranks are also metal, Suntour size 170.

    • A. I just saw this bike at the store. It's essentially the Varsity (road-bike) frame with flat bars (instead of drop-down bars). I'm 6'-0" and it feels exceedingly small to me. There is plenty of seat post to raise the seat. But, then the seat is *much* higher than the handlebars. Sitting on the bike with the seat adjusted correctly, I'm leaning forward very enormously. If I rode this way, my arms would be tired very quickly. The frame length seemed compact too. The headtube was very close. In my guesstimation, this bike is good for someone 5'-7" to 5'-9". Standover would be the limiting factor at the lower range. The front-end height would be the limiting factor at the upper range. Below I discuss specific geometry and make some comparisons to the Schwinn Avenue and Hiland City Spark, both sold by Walmart. I own both. - Frame size (as typically measured from pedal crank center to seat clamp): 21-1/2". That sounds like a Large bike. But, it didn't feel anywhere near large to me. (The Avenue and City Spark are 17" and 19" respectively. They feel much larger. Which goes to show how this common measurement doesn't mean a lot.). - Standover height: 31-1/2". - Top-tube length (center of headtube to center of seattube): 22-1/2" - Wheelbase: 41" (by comparison, the Aveune and City Spark are 43-1/4" and 42-3/4" respectively.). Chainstay: 16-5/8" (center of rear axle to center of pedal crank). The front end felt short to me. The top of the headtube (where the spacers start) to the ground is 32-3/4". (This compares to 37" and 35-1/2" for the Avenue and City Spark respectively.). A few notes: 1. The bike has "Varsity" and "Fitness series" painted on it. I don't know where Walmart got the model name "Hybrid." The real model name is "Fitness series." 2. It has quick-release axles front and rear. (And the seat is QR). 3. The stem has 4 3/8" spacers. 4. The handlebar is flat, with about a 10-degree pull back. If it had a typical "riser" bar, that would help make the bike more suitable for someone taller. A typical riser bar gives 1" to 1-1/2" height. (And then there are the threadless-headset "stem extenders" that give about 2-1/2" of height.). 5. I was impressed with the weight. The bike felt like 28 lbs. I'm accustomed to the Avenue and City Spark which are 32-33 lb. The Varsity Fitness felt significantly lighter. 6. The frame top and bottom tubes are oblong-triangular. I don't like that very much. Especially for the top tube. I'm old school and like round tubes. It makes it easier to attach things like u-lock holders.

    • A. Hello. I haven't bought the bike (yet), but I did mess with it in the store for awhile. I am 6'-0" and the bike fit me really well with the seat in the lowest position. The flat bat was a bit too close, but an extended stem will fix that. Over-all, I was very impressed with the bike for the money.

walmart impressed me with the whole purchase. from the price, to quality, to receiving the order in just 2 days.. free shipping as well.. amazing. bike is exceptional. easy to assemble. i would recommend bringing it to a bike shop to make the proper adjustments, which isn't too expensive at $25. if you are 5'9 or shorter, this bike may be too tall for you. it fits me perfectly and i am 5'10. i use the bike for commutes to work and for joy rides. definitely feels good also knowing you are getting a good exercise at the same time, and didn't spend $500-$1000 to purchase a more expensive bike. the deal is unbelievable. positives: price quality light weight appearance upgradeable quick release seat and wheels flat bars offer a more relaxed and comfortable ride negatives: seat was hard. after riding a good 5 days with it, it feels more comfortable. maybe it just needs to be broken in. no bottle cage, although you can add one. again, thats not expensive as well. also added a schwinn bike computer (calculates MPH, distance, etc.) for only $10 from walmart. can't beat it. overall more than happy with this purchase and i enjoy riding this bike.

I ordered this bike on Walmart's website, shipped by Fedex and was delievered on time. Before I open the box, I took some pictures of the surface of the package, so that if there is any problem with the bike caused by shipping and handling, I can show them the pictures as a proof, and there truly were 2 holes or 3 on it, but it's okay, everything else's good. Assemble: As other reviewers said, this bike is easily to be assembled. 【You need two allen wrenches, one 5mm, one 6mm. One phillips screwdriver, and one pliers optional. 】It's quite easy, you even don't need a manual! Tires: The tires are thinner than I thought, much thinner than the normal hybrid's. It's 28'' trie, seems in good quality. Saddle: Before I bought this bike, I saw many people said that the saddle is very poor, "hard as rock", but after I saw it and rode with it, it's alright! Not uncomfortable at all! It's not hard as well. A guy said the bottom of the saddle is firmed by staples, that's true, but it doesn't matter to my riding. Maybe it's because I'm very thin and light..... Gear system: I'm not quite familliar with bike's gear system, but seems this one is complicate, at least much complicate than my friend's mountain bike. It came with some tiny problems, the chain always rub the derailleur and sounds noisy. We took some time to tighten/loosen those nuts, and finally it fixed. The gear changes smoothly, as other reviewers said~ Brakes: The brakes are V brakes, not like the professional road bike with C-shaped brakes. Maybe that's one of the reasons why it's defined as "Hybrid". The brakes work very well, nothing more to say. Weight: Very light. Approximately 28 lbs (12 kg), so I can gained speed very fast even I started with the highest gear (3 by 7). There is one thing you should notice. As it's very light, while you are ridding very fast, the bike will sideslip a little bit, careful. Frame: The frame is big. I'm 5 ft 10 inches, and it just fits me. I think if I'am a little bit shorter I won't fit the bike! The welding parts are very good, seems strong and durable. All in all, it's very good bike, the best choice for those who want a road bike-like bicycle with a hybrid's price. Every part works well, light, fast and looks cool. Especially nice for this price. I received the bike on Thursday, and I rode it from Cupertino to Stanford on that weekend. I rode over 24 miles and the bike performed well! Highly recommend this bike. If I said anything incorrect in my review, please help me point it out. Hope it's helpful to you!

Just picked up this bike yesterday; used ship-to-store option. The bike comes mostly assembled; packaging withstood shipping Fed-ex from GA to Seattle. There was a light kink in the sheathing of one of the shifter cables near the head set, probably from factory. Doesn't seem to have kinked the cable. TOOLS NEEDED: I used a Phillips head driver, 2 sizes of allen wrench, pliers, and an adjustable wrench. What needs assembly: I mounted the flatbar to the riser; assembled quick release for front tire and mounted it; rear tire also has quick release, but it comes mounted. Seat comes attached to the post; adjusted the seat quick release and slipped it in. ADJUSTMENTS: Aired up the tires; I also invested in a tire pressure gauge that reads to 120 psi (under 3 bucks). Most car gauges only go to 55psi, and the rating on this bike's tires is 50-85psi. Adjusted the brakes- this took the most time- the rake of the bar and angle of the shifter/brake controls, minor derailleur adjustment and lubed chain. SPOKES: The wheels are tiny bit out of true; this doesn't look like it is the rims, probably spokes. This spoke configuration is different that Im used to, so I will take it to the local bike shop to have them tuned. OVERALL: PROS: -QUALITY: All in all, this bike is very, very light. Can carry with one hand over the shoulder no prob. The welds look good all around the frame. Excellent for the price, and a good bike for someone who is not a professional road racer. -The paint seems thick and good quality; there is a little white overspray on the black area of the frame near derailleurs, but not very noticable. -COMPONENTS: Impressed again; Shimano, Suntour, metal parts. Cranks, pedals and derailleurs are metal (yeah, I've seen plastic derailleurs before). Impressed with the ready-to-go-ness of this bike out of the box. The ride is very smooth; shifts quickly and well. -SIZE: This bike is tall. Seat post is 21.5'', 31.5'' stand-over height. After riding a 26" tire size for awhile, this felt way up in the air on my first ride. I'm 5'11'', wear a 34-35'' inseam, and this frame suits me well; I have a 2'' stand-over height on this bike. Being female, I have a shorter torso than lots of men my height, so this could be a consideration for some. My elbows are slightly bent when holding the grips. CONS: The cons are mostly cosmetic, accessory based. -GRAPHICS: I could do without all the words (fitness appears 4 times) on every possible surface. These are sealed under clear-coat, not decals, so can't be removed. I will probably camoflage them, tape, sharpie, stickers, something. -SEAT: the seat is...really bad. It is very poor quality, assembled with staples and looks like it would fall apart if it got wet. I kinda figured it would be, so I ordered a seat (Velo Out-Look Gel Saddle with Shock Absorbers) at the same time as the bike; it mounted to the seat post that came with the bike. The gel-saddle comes in two models, one with a narrower sit-surface, and one wider. I measured my "sit bones" (female pelvis) and chose the wider. Highly recommended. This seat is available in my local store for a few dollars less than the online price. -SIZE: I tried to mount a "universal" rear rack, but there are no mounting points on the frame near the rear hub area. It also looks like the brackets would not be long enough anyway. This is not really a "con" for the bike, but a point to consider because of the larger frame and tires. Universal fenders I ordered also took major modification to fit larger bike. I would definitely recommend this bike for the in-town commuter, farmers' market grocery-getter, student, or someone who wants to get back into riding again without a large investment. Unless you are a serious hobbyist or competition rider, this bike will probably suit your needs

I have ordered this bike online because in local walmart he costs 50$ more. Bike delivery was in 3 days. Bike wonderful - great assembled, packed, amazing quality ( I had GIANT bike before - this one much better ) Rides smooth and you can feel acceleration. Frame size 22'' - I'm 6'2 guy so it was a little to small for me :( Returned bike to local walmart shop without any problems next day. But bike is WONDERFUL !! Would recommend for Walmart to have more bigger bikes.
