After reading some articles on coconut coir (which i never heard of before) I thought I'd try this instead of sphagnum peat moss. It is neat that comes in little 'bricks' (the 40 pack order). And the total weight is about 55 lbs. Each 'brick' is a slightly different size in thickness, width and depth are uniform AND indivudally wrapped in plastic. Since this is my first experience with coconut coir I just took one brick and put it in a 5 gal bucket to see what is does after adding water. I added too much water all at once and it got over saturated. I tipped the bucket to let it drain. The material expanded to about three times the size of the brick. Its consistency was nice similar to the peat moss . I am going to use it on my lawn with grass seed to fill in bare areas. I will also be adding it to my garden this fall for next year. I probably should to that in the spring but I can buy more at that time if needed. If you want to order it now for next year that is good.. The forty bricks come in a box about the size in between small and large peat moss size. You can leave it in the shipping box OR you can take out each brick and store it how and where you want. It does not have to be in one big bundle like peat moss. They would make nice presents too, for someone who just needs a little to try for potting plants - just one brick. I like the 'unique' packaging.
