I'm very happy with this rug. Colours are classy. It's extremely soft - like the tummy of a bunny! The weave is somewhat like velvet, as when you brush it one way it can look a little different in color. It's even thick enough to have decent padding for falls. My toddler loves it. No smells. Lies flat. Docked star because the surface is a bit slippery from being so soft! My toddler slipped and fell twice so far. I got this to replace a gold ikea one that showed dirt like crazy. Was worried this might, too, but so far so good. The pattern helps camouflage.
