I had been on auto refill . My debit card got compromised. I called in ahead of time and told them my new card number. They started me over as a new auto refill customer. Now the fee is higher monthly . The way I found out is through my notification on phone when auto refill went through later and bill was higher. I called and explain to them and they didn't change it back. I Canceled and currently looking for another plan.

This company used to have a better deal than any of the other carriers, until recently. They decided to stop giving $5 off for auto-refill and only give $1 now. Their $45 plan now comes out to almost $50 after taxes, and that's with auto-pay! I remember when the $45 plan used to be a little over $46 with taxes and auto-pay. Another drawback to this company that I just found out tonight, is if you want to jump ship and take your number with you to another company, your new cell phone carrier pretty much has to plead and negotiate with Straight Talk to let them have your number ! My new carrier spent most of this evening trying to get Straight Talk to give up my number so that it can be ported. Here it is 3 hrs later and Straight Talk still hasn't held their end of the bargain! My new carrier also let me in on that Straight Talk has a history of doing this to customers that want to discontinue service with them. My suggestion to anyone wanting to try this company, you can do better! -There are companies that have hot spots and you can tether your phone to use it. Straight Talk doesn't let you tether your phone. -Also, for $50 you at least 8 gb of data with some other cell phone carriers, whereas it's $49 with taxes for Straight Talk's $45 plan and you only get 5 gb of data.

I purchase this every month for my son's cell phone. I've never had any issues with it at all. It is so convenient to be able to purchase online and send his code to him via messenger. I would recommend to anyone and have no plans to change from this anytime soon.

Customer service is absolutely horrible. They read from a script and just repeat everything until you want to give up and end the call. I would NOT recommend Straight talk to anyone unless you have no other option. Reading through reviews, this is a common occurrence and they obviously don't care how horrible their customer service is. Just know when you sign up with Straight talk you will NOT be happy with the customer service if you ever run into an issue and you will most likely end your conversation with them and not be happy with the outcome either.

Is it really unlimited?? I use a lot of minutes and can't find anywhere where it says there is a limit at all.

    • A. I see that some people have said that the first 3GB of data are at high speeds, then 2 GB. The ad says The "First 5GB data at high speeds, then 2G*". Isn't the ad correct?

    • A. Towards the end of the month, the data gets slow, but I get around that by turning the wifi on. Anytime I am home, my phone routes through my home internet instead of using up data on the phone. I've found that allows me to have plenty left for when I am out and about.

    • A. With the exception of @jewelsoftime, the answers here are somewhat misleading. You DON'T get unlimited high-speed data. You get 3GB of high-speed (including LTE) data per month but the speed drops to 2G after you use that data up. 2G is extremely slow and is good for email but little else. That said, this is still the best deal out there. I have been a customer for over a year and I highly recommend it.

    • A. NO NO NO it is not unlimited! It is a great plan if you just talk txt and surf the web but if you stream movies and shows it will eat up your data fast and surfing the web becomes super slow, pages take forever to load until you get back in wi fi then it's fine. I can watch 16 40 min shows then straight talk will send me a txt saying your data speed has been slowed down. So I watch how many shows I watch and mins of the shows. I have boring graveyard shift job w/ no wifi. It is a good plan just keep track of your streaming time and you will be fine.

    • A. The unlimited data is for 3gb of high speed data. if you use a program like PDA net to hook up the internet to your computer thru your phone it will use the 3gb in no time at all. After that you will only have a bare minimum of data speed. So slow it takes 5 minutes to get to a web page on your phone. I found this out trying to let my Granddaughter watch movies while I was babysitting. It would work for about a day and then the next day no go. So I called and was told the above. As soon as you renew your unlimited card you have another 3gb high speed data but be sparing with it. Data is not unlimited overall.

She has never had a problem and only is unable to get on when her 30 days is up. a simple refill of time and she is up and running for another 30 days.

    • A. I haven't bought service with a credit card in over a year, but when I last did they charged $45, plus 7% NJ state (where I live) sales tax, plus some Federal tax for 92 cents. If I buy service cards I still pay the 7% NJ sales tax, but I don't pay the Federal tax, so I save almost $1. However, Straight Talk is currently offering $2.50 savings each month if you charge to your credit card with their auto-refill program, so that more than offsets the Federal tax.

    • A. nine8102, Walmart will charge sales tax in those states and local jurisdictions that require sales tax be collected on phone cards whether one is purchasing online or at a store. Example, if I put my Washington state address in my online order, Walmart will definitely charge sales tax (plus another miscellaneous fee). If I put the address of the other state where I live half the time of the year (and actually the state where I declare domicile), there will be NO sales tax charged (even though that state has a sales tax, they do not require sales tax to be charged on phone cards). Again, it will depend on your location whether you get charged sales tax or the other miscellaneous fees I mentioned previously. Thanks.

    • A. savanna, there won't be any "hidden" charges ...in other words, I don't believe Straight Talk will try to "hide" extra charges from you. However, they are required to charge what your local jurisdiction requires. Straight Talk also does NOT charge an extra fee for using a credit card. Yes, in some locations (depending on the state, county, or city you're located), there can be sales tax charged and also some miscellaneous access fees (usually amounting to less than $2). Straight Talk (and/or Walmart) will only charge what your local jurisdiction requires. It's not a Straight Talk decision to charge sales tax or the amount to charge and they are not keeping any of those fees or taxes. In some places there will be no sales tax charged on phone cards or phone service even though there is a general sales tax in that state. I'll give you an example. I am a "snowbird" and spend time in two states. If I buy Straight Talk service in one state, I get NO sales tax or extra fees charged even though that states has a general sales tax as they do not require sales tax to be charged on phone cards. If I buy Straight Talk service in the other state, not only do I get charged sales tax but also a bunch of little access fess (911 access, miscellaneous regulatory fees, etc.). I now buy service from Walmart giving them my address in the former state as I save about a dollar-something a month. Or will buy a service card at a Walmart store in that state if I need one as no sales tax will be charged. Again, it will all depend on YOUR location.

    • A. Everybody who is answering so far seems to be ignoring the fact that you said you were moving to another state. Whether you can port your number depends on whether you remain in the same service region. I have no idea how service regions are defined, but you you MAY be able to keep your number if you move to an adjacent or nearby state, but you won't be able to keep it if you move across the country. You may be tempted to just move and keep paying for your service as you have been, but I've heard stories of people's service being turned off because they supposedly moved outside their region, even though they were just vacationing. In any case, it may not be a long term solution to just continue using your phone outside your region because you risk losing your service without notice.
