The mattress came packaged well, wrapped in plastic and in a long box. We let it sit for a few days hoping it would expand in thickness. It's very thin compared to ones we have had in the past and it's hard as a rock. I guess if you like really firm, this is OK for you. After a week it still has a strong smell like straw. We will be returning this.
