I absolutely love this shelf!! Its just the right size and color. Its perfect for smaller spaces. I bought it and the taller, 4 shelf unit to go with the new rug I just bought at Walmart.com. It finishes my livingroom perfectly! The fact that it is wood and not that pressed stuff makes it all that more beautiful.

This is not that hard to assemble. Make sure to rub the threads of the hex screws in some bar soap. This will make it a lot easier to screw them in with the hex wrench. I was able to screw in all of them using the one wrench supplied. I don't suggest drilling out the holes to make them bigger as it may weaken the connection. For attaching the angle bracket supports, use the right size Phillips screwdriver whose head isn't worn. You're screwing into a hard wood, so your screwdriver needs to have a good grip on the screw. Take your time during assembly and you should end up with a solid, sturdy bookshelf.

Basically a good product; however, I am pretty good at putting things together but this bookcase would probably make a less stubborn person put it away until they had a second pair of hands to hold it together during assembly. There are a couple of stages, unless you think outside of the box, that are just impossible by yourself. Finally, leave the screws loose because it is very difficult to put the shelves in place without a lot of play in the frame. My frame was loose but the three shelves were nearly impossible to slide in without the whole thing falling apart. I put some pretty good gouges in the wood getting the first shelf to stay in while I got the other two in but I got it all together by myself. The shelves are not adjustible (the description does not say) but the bottom and middle shelves are 12" tall. A regular size 3-ring binder will fit but will stick out about 1" because the dept of the shelves are "10 deep. Looks pretty good.

I had been looking for a light colored bookshelf for a while to add to a set of 3 I already had. The item listed was, it seemed, a perfect match at a great price. However, when I went to assemble the item, I found that is was poorly manufactured and a pain to install. The first problem encountered was that holes needed to install the shelf clips were missing on one of the sides. I had to drill these myself using positions based on the holes on the 'correctly' drilled side. However, when assembled, one of the shelves sloped because the side holes were not aligned with the back. I finally gave up and simply screwed the shelf to the sides since I never plan on moving this and the ability to fold the case isn't that important. (Also, one of the metal support clips was broken and basically useless.) When I went to stack this on top of another bookcase I found that the front left leg of the bookcase was 1/4 inch shorter than the right. So now, I have folded cardboard wedged in to keep the top case from pitching forward. I supposed I could have returned this, but after months of waiting to find the 'right' item, I decided to live with the flaws. It's in a basement office, so not seen by anyone but me. It's secured to the wall so unlikely to tip over because of the short front leg. This would be a great purchase if the manufacturer would institute some quality control.

I was expecting to put the shelves together in 10 minutes like the one I bought a couple of years ago. You opened the box, unfolded the sides, set the shelves in place and you were good to go. With this one you need two people and there are many pieces and screws. The instructions to put it together are confusing. After 90 minutes we gave up. I called a carpenter for help. What should have taken 45 minutes to assemble all 4 bookshelves is going to take me at least a week waiting for the carpenter to have free time. There was no way I could tell from the product description it was this complicated. I will have to keep 2 bookshelves because I got rid of the boxes. I am surfing the net trying to find the one like I bought before. If I do I will send the other 2 back.

I like this shelf it was fairly easy to put together. My only issue with it was that the colour isn't really Walnut - it is more of a mahogany/dark cherry wood.

I live only a couple of miles from a Container Store, but I decided to try to save a little money and order folding bookcases for my 14-year-old daughter's room from Walmart. Well, somehow I overlooked the fact that assemly was required. What?! One of the main reasons I have so many folding bookcases in my home is because all you have to do is unfold them and start putting books on them. I have *never* seen folding bookcases that came unassembled. On top of that, the "natural" is a whole bunch of different-colored pieces of wood. If I didn't live 20 miles from the nearest Walmart, I'd return these babies in a minute. But my husband is assembling the first one as we speak. It's quite a production, and he's pretty handy. Shoulda spent a little more and bought the ones at the Container Store or Target. Never again.

  • A. It comes with an Allen wrench to attach the back supports, but you'll need a Phillips head screwdriver for the front peg-type shelf supports. A rubber mallet would also come in handy to secure the wooden domed plugs that cover the back supports.
