Also known as American Filbert, a Hazelnut tree is a great choice for small spaces. About 15 ft. tall, a mature tree can produce approximately 20 lbs. to 30 lbs. of nuts. A rounded shrublike tree, it is also an attractive addition to the landscape with bronze or crimson leaves in the fall. The 1/2 in. Dia nuts grow in clusters of 2 to 6. They are easy to crack open and delicious, either fresh or cooked. For best results, grow in well-drained, very moist, fertile loam soil. Botanical name: corylus americana.
