Purchased this for my wife. She needs a lamp near her chair in the den for task lighting: reading, knitting, things like that. This lamp looked good on the website and from an appearance POV it is a good looking addition to the room. Assembly requires hand tools and is a one person job, but it did take more time than I expected. The vertical stand comes in several pieces that need to be fitted and then screwed together. Time consuming, but not difficult. The unit is set up for a standard 3-way bulb and is labeled for 100 watts maximum. That would probably be a 40/60/100 watt incandescent bulb. Given the change in rules about bulbs happening now I think manufacturers should be using new labels to reflect the use of CFLs and LEDs. In my case, I installed a CFL that is a 50/100/150 watt incandescent equivalent and uses a maximum 25 watts. And then there's that switch, my only design issue with this lamp. The on/off/select one of 3 brightness settings switch for the unit is a long shaft mounted directly on the side of the bulb socket. No issue there. Problem is it nearly touches the top edge of the lamp shade and the place where you grasp the switch to rotate it does not leave enough space between the switch and the edge of the lamp shade to get an unencumbered grip on the switch. It does work, but it is really kind of awkward to use. They could be made the shaft a bit longer. They could had put a little more space between the end of the switch and the top edge of the shade. They could have asked me what I thought first. All this being said, I like the lamp. Good looking; does what a lamp should do; my wife likes it (the most important feature) and a fair value for the money.
