I got this battery in 6/07 to replace one that came with my 2003 class C RV .. Its just starting to not hold a charge , so its time to replace it.. I think most who have trouble with batteries just don't know how to care for deep cell batteries .. or want to take the time to. I have talked to a lot of weekend rvers and weekend boaters who complain about batteries and when I ask them when was the last time they have done any maintenance on the batteries they (8 out of 10 ) , just look at me and say ..Aren't all batteries maintenance free ?? I tell them nothing in the world is if you want it to last !! If you take care of your investments ,it will take care of you ..

I have learned it makes a difference in what region you get your battery. Walmart uses at least 2 suppliers, maybe more. I have found the batteries made by Johnson Controls way out-perform those made by their other suppliers. My experience in comparing them was with the deep cycle batteries. I have used Walmart batteries in my vehicles, but have not done the same performance comparisons as with the deep cycles in my RV. The manufacturer for Walmart should be stamped in the battery case, sometimes hard to find. Ask the auto dept manager for help. I will continue to buy the Johnson Controls supplied batteries. If they drop JC, I will go elsewhere.

I've had this battery for at least 7, maybe 8 years. I've always kept it on a battery maintainer instead of a standard charger. Still powering my trolling motor after all these years with no issues. It's a heavy battery but worth the weight. I've gone 5 hours on a trolling motor (30 lb thrust Minn-Kota) at full power with this battery on a canoe. Getting ready to buy another one.

I use a 29DC for my electronics in my 15' Aluminum boat. Sticker say 05/10 - still works fine for me all day long. I run my 55lb Trolling Motor, lights, horn, sonar, and bilge pump off it. Can't complain - great battery as long as you maintain it.

Bought this battery as a replacement for my Home battery on twin engine cruiser one month ago. I asked the automotive salesman if they were fully charged. ---I failed to check the water level since it was new and he said yes --- my mistake I think. Well my boat charger kept tripping the starboard breaker -- so moved the battery to the Port engine well then the Port breaker kept tripping -- this started a week and half ago. I then checked the water level --none -- I mean zero --- I am bringing the battery back for replacement as I do not it charged up -- i want a new one with electrolytes in it --- we will see what happens -- what is surprising is that I had no problems until two week of use which is probably because I pulled most of the amps out of it and my charger could put them back in hence the tripping of the breakers ---

    • A. No, this is not a maintenance free battery. There are two caps on the top of the battery that you can easily pry open with a flathead screw driver. You need to check the water level. If it is low, you need to add distilled water. I know this because I didn't add water and four of these from my solar power system went bad because of it. Make sure the battery is cool before you do this.

    • A. you can tell by the vents and/or caps.FLA(flooded lead acid)has easily removable caps/vents for adding distilled water for routine maintenance this battery does not,it is AGM (absorbed glass mat)which has caps/vents not designed for easy removal for routine maintenance because of reduced gassing off

    • A. If you need a starting battery for your boat, you need a different type of marine battery. These batteries are intended for use with trolling motors and other accessories, solar power systems etc. The marine batteries used for cranking over your engine are just like your car batteries. They are not meant to be subjected to repeated deep discharge and recharge cycles. This battery is intended for applications that involve repeated deep discharge/recharge cycles. For engine starting you would want a marine battery, that does not list DC after the group size (ie: Group Size 29DC), such as the EverStart Maxx Group Size 29 Marine Battery. Hope this helps you.

    • A. CCA is 675. Unless you're boating in 0 degree F weather you're probably more interested in the MCA - Marine Cranking Amps - which is 845 measured at 32 degrees F.
