The finger hole in the blade gives extra control and safety. The handle is very nice wood with an excellent feel. Yes, very sharp and to keep it this sharp will require skill and a good honing stone, NOT a notch type or electric sharpener. The very expensive presentation box was a real flop, overkill and hard to recycle. The TIP OF THE KNIFE was sticking through and out of one end of the box! I was lucky to not cut myself during opening of the outer packaging. This despite their inclusion of specially designed plastic tip guards that were rattling around loose in the box, and use of a fitted ensolite foam bed that the knife fits perfectly. Those plastic tip guards need to be taped in place for safety. The magnets in the hinged lid, and the foam bed, are difficult to separate for recycling of the all black box with silverized lettering.

from start to finish 5 stars! shipping was super fast and packaging to ship was great it even comes in a very nice magnetic box with some welcome cards in a fancy envelope. down to business though this knife has no impact it literally glides through anything you touch it to. i tried using the hole though it just complicated things but i am sure there is a trick i can learn. i cut through an old onion that had hardened not only did it shock me i didnt have to apply much pressure at all but i simply washed it off with water ONLY and the terrible smell that was even still on my cutting board after i sprayed and wiped it down was completely gone off the knife like magic. I've never seen anything like it. i sure hope the sharpness stays this way a while like it says; if so i won't be buying any other brand knife ever again but them! its a must see and a must have! i usually don't say this but i actually would pay more now that i know what i do.... assuming this stays sharp over a little time.
