We bought this bed when my daughter turned 3 and she loves it, that's why I'm giving it a 4 star rating instead of 3. But sharing my detailed pros, cons and overall experience for parents to consider before buying. Pros: - Cute design - solid panel prevents kids from rolling off bed - Affordable - good value for price - Well packaged - several foam pieces for protection from damage - Well engineered - all screws, holes and pilot holes lined up correctly - Decent instructions with images Cons: - Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) gases were very strong, likely from the paint used. See "overall experience" below for additional details. - One wooden board had some paint missing, but was on a piece that goes against the wall so not visible on a daily basis - There are many sections where the cylinder nuts are visible. I personally think this should be re-designed so you don't see those. Kind of an eye sore once you notice them, you can't unsee them. - The book shelves are nice, but we were concerned our daughter would bump her head, so placed a pillow in front of the end by her head. - It feels pretty sturdy but concerned my daughters will hang on it at some point and break the horizontal cross bars. They think most big objects are monkey bars. Overall Experience: - I'm pretty handy so assembly was pretty easy, but it did take about an hour by myself. - The VOC gas smell was the biggest concern as I noticed it right away. After doing some research, we tried the following and on day 4-5 the smell was almost gone. 1. Placed all of the boards outside in the sun for 1.5 days to "air out". 2. Assembled and wiped the entire frame down with 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water. 3. Turned the fan on high, had the window open and closed the doors. 2-3 days straight. 4. Opened a new box of baking powder and placed it by the bed. Will likely keep it there for a few weeks just to be safe. - The solid panel blocks the view of the kid's head/shoulder area, so we had to move the baby monitors to see how our kid slept. - We also bought a 6 inch mattress which fit nicely and kept the bed low to the floor. Overall, I would recommend based on the appearance and price. But want parents to consider the time and appropriate actions to remove the VOC fumes before letting their child sleep in it.
