We bought this blu-ray player with the home theater system along with a 40" samsung lcd tv. It does the job with one slight issue. There is no way to sync the audio and video. Sure there is a setting to set how far away the speakers are, but that doesn't fix the problem. Check out this forum to see what I mean: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/t/308728/sound-delay-from-philips-home-theater-system . Very disappointed as the audio is a half second ahead of the video and changing the speaker distance does not help whatsoever. It will work just fine playing the audio through the hdmi cable to the tv itself, but what's the point of the home theater system if that's the case? Anyways, if you're on a budget, buy another blu ray player and then save up for the receiver and speaker combo. You'll be muuuuuuch happier.

We got this 2 weeks ago and have had nothing but problems ever since. The sound may or may not work with our satellite TV, or our Playstation, depending on how this thing decides to act for that day. Other times, certain channels of sounds just stop playing. Usually a channel that contains dialog when watching a movie. Another time, the whole system just stopped working completely. We had to reset it by unplugging it for 5 minutes. So far, we've had to unplug it, plug it back in, call tech support, turn it off and on and off and on so many times trying to get it to work, I lost count. We're taking it back to Wal Mart today. Enough is enough.

I would like to clarify some things for people who may have been mislead by other reviewers. First, keep in mind that you are looking at a unit that is under $200, and still has all the trimmings: I can stream Netflix from the built-in wireless receiver, watch blu-ray movies, and enjoy 1000 watts of surround sound. All things considered, I couldn't be happier. Some have said the sound quality isn't very good, or there is not enough bass. The sound quality, especially during movies, is just fine. If you're an audiophile, look elsewhere, but know that you can't be an audiophile on a budget. When playing music the system isn't as crisp as it could be, but is perfectly acceptable. There is PLENTY of bass response as well. I have a modest living room, and I've had the walls shaking during a movie. Again, for a $200 system that does what it does, it is great. I've read multiple reviews saying that it only plays the audio through the 5.1 speakers if you're playing a blu-ray movie: this is blatantly false, and is just a case of the reviewer not knowing how to connect everything properly. Lastly, yes Netflix only shows what is on your instant cue. At most this is a mild inconvenience, but is quickly remedied. You can put as many shows and movies as you want on your instant cue, just do it on your computer, or on your phone. In conclusion, I am very happy with this system. I'm an avid movie watcher, and the picture and sound that this system provides is, for it's price, unbeatable.

Picked this up at local Wal Mart for $178. Everything works well out of the box. Easy to set up, I highly recommend updating the software, which doesn't take long. The bass is pretty good, make sure you adjust the bass to the levels that are acceptable to you I adjusted mine to +2db. There is no sound delay I have the speakers not too far from my couch (about 6 ft). Can play Netflix, Blockbuster, music and more... My only complaint is the main menu is sluggish and looks generic.

I have owned it for one month. Initially disappointed with bass levels, but seeing as how I mainly watch movies and tv shows on dvd I wasn't too worried about it. I just expected more oomph. Watching TV this evening when the audio cut out. I had a digital audio coaxial cable running into the device from my TV (Mitsu 73" DLPRP). Tried switching to multiple sources (Home, Coax, Aux) to no avail. I will be returning it in the morning. Also, the processor seems a bit slow, and I was unable to get my U-Verse remote to program the Bluray player. I agree with the previous reviewer, save your money.

I've searched and searched for a surround sound system that played Blu-Ray, had internet connection for Netflix streaming, was simple to install, simple to understand and use, not loaded with things I don't care about, nor loaded with things I didn't want to pay for, modestly customizable, and at a fair price. I looked for months and found it in this unit. It has wi-fi but I ran an ethernet cable to it to maximize speed so can't comment on it, but I got EVERYTHING I needed...awesome. I'm glad to be done shopping.

This device does not truly have Net TV. It only has 6 channels!: Netflix, Pandora, Vudu, Vudu Apps, Blockbuster, Filmfresh. Doesn't even have YouTube like in the picture? False advertising! Finding a universal remote to use with this is really really hard. I am still trying. Do NOT plan using this as your primary device for streaming Netflix. You can only stream your instant queue and you can only see 100 episodes of a show at a time. (For example, only 100 episodes of the 202 episodes of The X-Files show up on the player at a time.) If the show is not available, you have to start playing it on your PC and then it will become part of the 100 visible on the player. At least the audio sounds good but you can't individually control the bass, treble, ect. You can only select the pre-selected settings (eg: "Rock"). Very, Very Disappointed. I constantly wait for a firmware update. Please update.

I purchased this system from walmart about a month ago and feel that it is behind in technology! I had to buy a converter due to the fact that it does not come with a fiber optic audio in jack that is standard on most new tv`s. It only allows you to play movies from your netflix instant que and does not support browsing or searching in netflix (contacted phillips and netflix about this and got told there is nothing that will fix this). The player is slow and takes way to much time to start up and play discs of any type. If I could go back I would have spent the same amount of money on a better player!!!

My husband and I looked all over for a blu ray player that had surround sound that wasn't a fortune. This one has nearly all the features of the ones that cost $400 but no where near the cost. We saw in online and noticed it was in stock at our local store so we went to go get it, when we got there it was like $60 more. Since they started doing the pick up today we were able to get the deal online and still pick up the one at our local store and have it that day. It is a great player and having the option to still get the great price from online even though the store wouldn't honor it was awesome.

I got this system as a gift for my speical somebody. The sound is great and its almost easy to set up. What I dislike about the system is the slow load of blue ray before it start to play. Reminder of the first dvd player that was cheap so it loaded longer then normal or longer then a pc load a dvd. However I think the longer than normal loading of blue rays has something to do with the system connecting to the wi fi and pulling information for the online options. I would buy me one of these system. The system may not be top line but its worth more then the asking price.
