Great GP Knife

The Reaper is a great knife for general purpose field or tactical use. The blade length is useful for a variety of camp chores such as cutting veggies, meat, rope, cord, kindling, or anything else you might use it for. The drop point blade has enough belly to be a decent skinner, even if large for most jobs, and will pierce materials such as leather or wood decently. The coating is durable and good looking for what it is. The handle is very ergonomic and the scales are shaped to be very comfortable for medium and large hands. My favorite thing about the Buck Reaper is the weight and balance. This thing feels solid but balanced just in front of the handle. For the size of the knife, you would expect it to feel more front heavy. The only let down is the sheath, which is a very basic black nylon model, and could be better. The Buck Reaper feels good in the hand, balances well, has a useful blade shape, and is made of decent steel with great heat treatment and an even and durable coating. Overall, an excellent knife and good value.

So nice, I had to buy it twice.

Living in the shadow of the mountains of Colorado, I needed a knife that would stand up to the outdoors. At the store I purchased my Buck "Reaper" with Rosewood handles, I was immediately amazed by the balance and raw cutting ability. I used this knife when landscaping and it cut inch wide tree roots like butter. Unfortunately, my co worker wasn't as careful and lost the knife after I lent it to him. 2 weeks passed and we were unable to find my Reaper, so I just went back to the store and bought the last one they had, the display knife. Now it will never leave my side whether I'm exploring the outdoors, cutting steak, or landscaping. Thanks Buck and God Bless.

Another high value winner

I just did a review of the vanguard that I carry for edc, but have two reapers as well, I use one for the heavier work like cutting vines, small branches ect. But is still very light weight, and has surprising chopping ability being so light, my son and I took turns chopping a cypress branch (about 6in dia) to test edge, it still could cut paper, rough, but did cut it. Few passes on a 1x30 (belt sander) lether belt strop and it was clean shaving sharp again, it is my utility cart's edc knife. I also have the hood/punk but have no real world experience with it yet and just bought recently, next month as camping season approaching for us.

Like a Small Machete

It feels like a small machete in my hands. The jimping on the back of the blade and forward weight gives it good impact when you're swinging it or chopping at something. It's sturdy. Took me a while to get use to the blade curvature. I got this on an impulse buy and have been pleased so far. I gave 4 stars because there is a flaw in the design, where the thumb slot curves up against edge of the blade. It's just a bad spot to put that there and can be an accident waiting to happen, especially if you have big fingers. Also I'll say that I'd love to see Buck release this model in all stainless, without the black traction coating.

I love the reaper...well after i got a costom sheath from cleavland kydex (great us made quality sheath) i bow hunt coyote in the desert and after 6 months of researching for the perfect knife this was it...very light wait (with kydex sheath is 10 oz) which is important when bow hunting i lose my arrows from missed shots from time to tim in thick brush with the reaper retreaving them is a breeze also great skinnin knife...I own 11 buck knives and love them all...ps another great bow hunting knife is bucks camp compadre....love that one as much as the reaper.
