Autumn is coming…is your front door ready?

It will be soon, thanks to these quick ‘n’ easy fall wreath DIYs! Whether you only have five minutes or, well, a bit more time than that, we have a how-to that will guide you through the steps to create a festive and fabulous decoration for your home.

Easy: Rustic yarn accents

Supplies:

  • 1 grapevine wreath
  • 8-12 plastic straws (depending on the size of your wreath)
  • 3-5 skeins of yarn in various fall colors
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Scissors

How to:

  1. Cut the straws down to between 6 and 8 inches in length.
  2. Thread a piece of yarn through a straw, being sure to leave about 5 inches hanging from each side.
  3. Once your glue gun has heated, place a small dollop on one end of the straw, then affix the end of a piece of yarn to it.
  4. Twirl the straw to quickly wrap the yarn around it from end to end, completely covering the straw. Be careful not to lose the yarn you threaded through the straw! (We learned the hard way.)
  5. When the straw is covered, you can wrap the yarn back around the outside of the straw in a diagonal pattern if you’d like to add more texture.
  6. Repeat with all straws until you have an assortment of all the colors you’d like to use.
  7. Now, thread the loose ends of yarn hanging out of the straws through the wreath, tying them in a knot on the underside of the wreath to secure.
  8. Continue doing this all over the wreath until you’ve covered as much of the surface with colorful yarn as you’d like.
  9. Finished! Place your rustic-yet-refined wreath on your front door, the wall or anywhere else you’d like a festive autumnal accent.

Easier: Festive felt leaves

Supplies:

  • 1 grapevine wreath
  • 6-8 felt sheets in various fall colors
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Scissors

How to:

  1. Stack 2 felt sheets, then cut out a simple leaf shape. Try to vary the size so you wind up with mostly large leaves, and several medium. (Note: If you’re a perfectionist, you can use a pattern, but allowing them to be slightly different shapes just adds to the textural appeal!)
  2. Continue cutting leaf shapes until you’ve used all your felt sheets.
  3. Once your glue gun has heated, place a dollop of glue on the underside of the bottom end of each felt leaf.
  4. Quickly tuck the bottom of the leave in between grapevine. Try to position some so they’re tucked and folded in between the grapevines, which adds dimension.
  5. Continue gluing felt leaves in the same direction all the way around the wreath until there’s no visible grapevine.
  6. And you’re done! Enjoy your colorful new creation.

Easiest: The great pumpkin

Supplies:

  • 1 grapevine wreath
  • 4-6 sprigs of faux leaves or a garland
  • 1 small faux pumpkin
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Scissors

How to:

  1. If you’re using a garland, cut clusters of faux leaves off it, leaving some plastic stem to tuck into the grapevine of the wreath.
  2. Once your glue gun has heated up, place a small dollop of glue on the end of a cluster of leaves, then quickly tuck it into your grapevine wreath.
  3. Repeat step two on the opposite side, placing and gluing leaves in the opposite direction, working towards a middle point.
  4. Continue until you reach your desired fullness and shape.
  5. Finish by gluing your faux pumpkin in the center of the leaves.
  6. You’re finished! Easy as pie, right?
