With so many floorcare options available, a cheat sheet about cleaning products and supplies may help you maintain the condition of your flooring. Options include items for cleaning and protecting hard floors as well as carpeted areas. As a bonus, some products serve both flooring types equally well.

To care for hard flooring, choose stick vacuums that don't have beater brushes or traditional vacuums with hard floor settings. Follow up after sweeping with a steam mop to sanitize flooring and to pick up any remaining debris or dust. For carpeted flooring and area rugs, vacuums with beater brushes knock the dirt out of carpet fibers so the vacuum is able to suck it away. Choose a handheld vacuum for those times you need to spot clean a small area like a windowsill or car interior.
