Work better and smarter with the right office furniture
When setting up a home office or even an office for your small- to medium-sized business, having the right office furniture, meaning items that are both functional and comfortable, helps your productivity and that of those around you. For a great selection of office furniture, turn to Walmart, where we have low prices, every day, on everything.
Whether your computer hard drive sits on your desk on beneath it, or you use a laptop or tablet as your main device, it and everything that you use daily for work and play needs to be able to sit on something. Picture everything you need to have within reach on your desk before purchasing one. This also means considering if you need drawer space or a rolling file cabinet that fits underneath. Some office desks can be placed anywhere in a room while others are specifically made to work in the corner of a room. Some only have the desk space on the top, and others allow you to add a hutch or bookshelf for additional storage space. There are many styles of desks from which you can choose. Select the one that gives you enough surface area to comfortably spread out as well as the proper amount of storage space for the items you need close at hand on a daily basis.
A computer desk tends to be small and only have space for a keyboard, mouse and monitor or laptop. Executive desks are much larger, often made of hardwood like cherry and oak and serve more as a focal point of your room than a typical work desk might. Some desks need to have more space on top for other office machines and accessories like printers, scanners and speakers. For small spaces like dorm rooms or studio apartments, you may want to consider a desk that takes up little space like a writing desk or laptop cart. If you don t like the idea of sitting at your desk all day, we also carry sit-to-stand desks and monitor risers. These adjustable desks allow you to sit at your desk and then, with a couple of quick adjustments stand at your desk comfortably with everything you need at eye and hand level. Remember that most desks come unassembled, so it may be necessary to have access to basic tools like screwdrivers so you can put it together.
When selecting office furniture, office chairs may be the most important consideration. Those who work at a desk job tend to sit at their desk for eight hours per day sometimes longer. A comfortable office chair can reduce the strain on your back. If you are in a position of authority, you may want to select an executive chair, which are larger chairs made from finer materials like real leather, have high backs and sometimes come with massage capabilities.
A basic office chair has a back and a seat, rolls on casters and is usually adjustable. Higher-end chairs have higher backs, more plush seating areas and have adjustable arms. Ergonomics come into play when selecting office chairs, and ones that offer lumbar support are much appreciated. Another style of ergonomic chair that some people like are kneeling chairs. These allow you to kneel at a desk while using a computer or other device. If you have an office that is open to the public, you will likely need chairs for your customers to sit. These are usually basic cushioned or hard plastic chairs that are on four legs, are stackable and do not roll.
Other office furniture
If you have reference books or work binders that you need to keep nearby, a bookcase can be quite handy. These can either set up against a wall or go in the corner of the room. Some are standard three- to five-shelf bookcases while others are more stylish, such as leaning ladder or modular bookcases.
Another important piece of office furniture to consider are file cabinets. Although made specifically for files, these often serve as additional drawer space and can even offer addition accessory space, such as placing a printer on top.
Rolling carts are versatile pieces of office furniture that can serve several purposes. There are basic ones that just have a top and an open storage space below while more versatile ones have a surface area on top, plus open or closed storage below, including some that have doors, drawers or both for keeping your items out of view.
