A journey to better living.
Going to college is incredibly exciting. You’re embarking on the next phase of your life, expanding your education and (for many) living on your own for the first time. Upon arriving at your empty dorm room however, this excitement can change to fear. Cold and unwelcoming, it can be hard to imagine living in this space for an extended period of time (believe me, I remember this feeling well). That’s why decorating your space is so important. Bringing your personality, memories and favorite decor will make your dorm feel welcoming and warm. Learning how to maximize the limited square footage with stylish storage or hanging accents will also make a huge difference. I can’t guarantee that personalizing your dorm room will improve your grades, but it will improve your mood in your new collegiate atmosphere.
Here’s the thing about dorm rooms: they’re small spaces. If you want to focus on style, you have to make sure that the not-so-glamorous necessities are tucked away neatly. Invest in storage that can be hidden under your bed or in your closet. Better yet, find stylish storage like trunks and woven baskets that can be displayed while removing clutter from sight. Then, focus on showing off more decorative accents and personalized decor.
Again, keep in mind that there isn’t much space in your dorm room. In fact, your bed will take up most of the real estate. So, use it to your advantage. Introduce your personality through the bedding that you choose. If you’re a lover of modern Scandinavian design, pair a soft gray duvet with off-white sheets. If you’re bohemian at heart, introduce patterned textiles and eccentric throw pillows.
