Body Wash and Soap
Gone are the days of just picking up a bar of soap and lathering yourself all over with it. Now, it's important to know what's in that soap and what it can do for your skin. Learn what type of skin you have, such as oily, dry or a combination of both, and look for a body wash or soap that works best for your skin. While scented soaps and body washes are fine if you don t wear cologne, you may want to choose a fragrance-free soap so it doesn't compete with your chosen fragrance.
Choose soap that doesn't create a lot of lather. Although lather looks like it's doing a good job, it can actually strip your skin of needed oils that help keep it from drying out. If you're looking to save a little time while in the shower, we have several body washes that double as a shampoo as well. A good quality washcloth is a must-have item, although bath sponges and loofahs can help exfoliate your skin while you bathe.
One final tip: once you've finished drying off, take a few minutes and apply moisturizer to your skin. Doing so after a shower is the best time to add lotion because your skin's pores are still open from the heat of your shower and more receptive to the moisturizer's affects.
Shampoo and Conditioner
Similar to body washes and soaps, it's necessary to look for shampoos that don't remove too much of your scalp's natural oils. In fact, while bathing and shaving every day are often necessary, it's a good idea to skip a day now and then when washing your hair to help keep it healthy. If your hair tends to be dry, condition it once or twice a week.
There are shampoos available for many different hair types. For people who have no issues with their hair, most shampoos are fine. However, if you have frequent dandruff or an itchy scalp, choose a shampoo designed specifically to alleviate these conditions. If you swim often (chlorine can damage hair with frequent exposure), choose shampoos and conditioners that undo the damage caused by chlorine. If you have colored hair, select shampoos labeled to help retain the color longer.
As far as conditioners go, you can select from those you apply and immediately rinse out, apply and leave in for a set amount of time, or some that combine with shampoo to save you a step in the shower. Many conditioners, especially deep conditioners, are designed to bring back the moisture to your hair, making it look and feel healthier. We also offer several conditioners that work in conjunction with shampoos to relieve dandruff and other scalp conditions.
Most deodorants and antiperspirants available come in stick form, although there are some that come in aerosol spray or roll-on varieties. Choose what you're most comfortable with. Many are in gel form, but some are solid and roll onto your skin in the same way gels do. You can choose to buy deodorant and antiperspirant separately or have them both in the stick.
Deodorants prevent or delay the musty smells that can build during a long day of work or play. Antiperspirants work to keep underarms dry for several hours, even when working out in the hot sun, and prevent you from sweating. Most gels go onto the skin clear, but some solids can leave a white residue on clothing. Many stick deodorants and antiperspirants come in packages that range from 2.7 to 3 ounces, which is usually good for about a month of use. Aerosol cans are around 6 ounces and last for about the same amount of time. body sprays are also available, although these work more like deodorants or cologne.
You can go many ways when choosing shaving products. We have many different types and styles of disposable razors. In some cases, you can toss both the handle and blade away or just the blade. Depending on how sensitive your skin is, you can select from disposable razors that have between two and five blades on them, and some even come with a moisturizing strip on top to ease sensitivity. For added control, choose shavers that have pivoting heads, which allow the razor to run along the contours of your face and neck without lifting your skin and accidentally cutting it.
Some men prefer to use electric shavers. Although it's difficult to replicate the close shave you receive with a blade, many do come close. Electric razors come with a cord or are cordless and recharge on a stand. If you're a multitasker, consider a wet-dry razor that you can use in the shower.
Shaving does a fair amount of damage to the skin. When using razor, protect your skin with the right shaving cream or gel. With shaving products, you want foamy cream between the blade and your skin to help protect your face and reduce potential razor burn. As a bonus, many shaving creams double as moisturizers. If you have sensitive skin or are prone to razor burn, look for shaving creams that are specifically for sensitive skin. If you want your face smelling nice afterward, don t forget the aftershave.
