    How to Use Western Premium Apple Wood Chips for Smoking
    You can use Western’s Premium Apple Wood Chips to smoke meats in a variety of ways. They can be used in a charcoal, gas, or electric grill.

    If you’re using wood chips for smoking your meats on a gas or charcoal grill, place dry wood chips in a foil pack or a smoke box and place them over the heat. Let the apple chips start smoking, then move them to one side of your grill. Place your meat on the grill and close the lid. Cook to time or temperature you normally would, keeping the lid closed as much as possible. The chips will smoke for 20 to 30 minutes. If you need to cook your meat for a longer period of time, have an extra smoker box or pouch of wood chips ready to go.

    When using a charcoal grill or small to medium smoker, we recommend using our chunks instead of chips to get a longer smoking time and better smoking results. Check out our Western apple wood chunks at Walmart.com.

    If you wish to use our wood chips for smoking in a charcoal grill, load your grill with lump charcoal. Light the charcoal using your preferred method; however, we would recommend you avoid using lighter fluid, so your meat retains the natural apple smoke flavor. Several minutes prior to cooking, fill a smoker tray or a foil pouch with one to two handfuls of apple chips. Place the tray or pouch on the hottest part of the grill surface until it begins to smoke. Once the chips have begun smoking, move them with tongs to make room for your future meal. Add your meat to the grill, close the lid, and smoke until you achieve that great apple smoke flavor. The apple chips will smoke for approximately 20-30 minutes. If you need to cook your meat for a longer period of time, have an extra smoker tray or pouch of wood chips ready to go.

    How to Use Western Premium BBQ Hickory Wood Chunks for Smoking
    You can use Western’s Premium Hickory BBQ Wood Chunks for smoking meats in a variety of ways. They can be used in charcoal grills as well as personal and small to medium smokers.

    To use our wood chunks for smoking in a charcoal grill, load your grill with lump charcoal. Light the charcoal using your preferred method; however, we would recommend you avoid using lighter fluid, so your meat retains the natural hickory smoke flavor. Several minutes prior to cooking, add 3-5 dry hickory chunks on a grill so they have time to smoke. Add your meat to the grill, close the lid, and smoke to desired doneness. Continue to add wood chunks every 20-30 minutes or as needed during your cooking process.

    To use our wood chunks for cooking in a charcoal grill or smoker, place dry cooking chunks in a pyramid on top of a solid fire starter leaving an edge exposed. Light the fire starter. Let the chunks burn for 15-20 minutes with the lid and all vents open. If you desire a milder flavor, let the chunks burn longer. Close lid and wait for the flames to subside. This usually takes less than a minute. Spread the chunks evenly in the grill and replace the cooking grid. Now, add your food. Close the lid and let the meat absorb that delicious hickory smoke flavor. Cook as you normally would until desired doneness.
