The Mark 1 Navy Deck knife takes notoriety, tradition and usefulness for a knife to "carve" its place out in military history. Needless to say, it is interesting to see reproductions of knives that played an important part in our nation's military past and to note the important features that made it a good-all-around utility and combat blade. Colonial Knife was one of a dozen or so companies that produced the very basic "Mark 1" to meet this requirement. The knife grew in popularity and respect as the people who used it depended on it for combat, rescue and survival situations. Many have filtered their way through the military knife collectors market, but now are a rarity due to their increasing popularity. The polymer-handle versions are few and far between. Colonial Knife decided to fix that for the collector and user.

The Colonial 1-Hand-Opening Blackie Collins Knife is a handy tool to have at your side. It opens quickly for immediate use and is made from high quality materials. This Colonial Knife quickly cuts through twine, rope, wire and several other items. The key-chain-sized Ameba was designed by Adam Smith of the Rhode Island School of Design, prototyped at Brown University and then updated with the blades designed by Blackie Collins. All the signature series use the same style of firing mechanism. The big button on this hunting knife makes the safety simple to operate, even when wearing gloves. The clip allows loosening of the tension to get a good mix of security and ease of draw.

The Colonial Knife Corp produces scary-fast one-handers. Fit and finish quality levels are nothing short of excellent. This knife is equal to many folders priced four to five times as high. The idea is "subdued" here, with dark digital camo-finished smooth aircraft aluminum scales, black screws, black pocket clip and blackened blade. There's no jimping, but the hollow-ground 7002 offers 1-1/8 inches of edge serrations and 58-60 Rockwell hardness. The guard tab doesn't stand as high above the liners, but it's still perfectly accessible. The handle edges are well rounded and the contours are very comfortable in the hand.
