Photo paper

Different types of photo paper are categorized by surface finish. The vast majority of photographs are printed on glossy photo paper, which comes in varieties like high gloss, low gloss and semi-gloss, or satin. This shiny paper produces rich and vibrant colors. Use glossy photo paper for printing everyday shots to share with family and friends. This type of paper tends to reflect light. Therefore, it's not good for framing since glass also reflects light.

Matte photo paper, which shows fewer if any fingerprints, is an ideal choice for framing. This paper tends to emphasize the texture in an image. The color black shows up well, producing greater color contrast. Photo paper is heavier than standard paper. The extra thickness and weight offer a superior look and feel. This paper is usually 7 to 10 mil. The best choice is based on personal preference.
