Performances by Humphrey Bogart and Walter Huston were outstanding. Also, John Huston's directing and screen play were outstanding. Especially memorable was Bogart's transformation from a likable bumb into a greedy paranoid monster. I have watched The Treasure of The Sierra Madre at least six times over the years and I still enjoy it very much. In addition, the blu-ray version was in black and white with very good picture quality. There was a color DVD version of the movie. However, I am not aware if the color version is still available.
By far the most sensitive, restrained, and effective piece of direction Wyler ever turned in, the film achieves a measure of greatness through the dignity and depth of Huston's superb interpretation of the plainspoken Yankee.
