Born Walter Annichiarico in Verona, Italy, Walter Chiari was an actor well known for his roles in Italian comedy films. Fluent in English as well as Italian, he worked with legendary directors, including Orson Welles in 1966's Chimes at Midnight. In 1957, during filming of The Little Hut, Chiari began a romantic affair with actress Ava Gardner, who was still married to, but estranged from, Frank Sinatra at the time.
