I was expecting better because several people told me it was 'great'. It's okay. To me, it's just another martial arts\/boxing\/fighting movie. You find yourself having to root for one brother against the other. I found Nick Nolte as their father to be a miscast.
This movie started out slow, but ended up being a very good flick. Had to add it to my collection. As Joel Edgerton has become one of my favorite actors. Nick Nolte proves to be an exceptional addition to an up and coming cast of actors.
This film is absolutely amazing--a great who-done-it, like, for instance, the game and film Clue (or Cluedo in England)! The cast is amazing (Gary, Benny!, Mark Strong, John Hurt, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy...the list goes on!), the soundtrack is amazing (particularly Julio Iglesias' cover of \"La Mer,\" which is brilliantly\/ironically featured at the very end of the film...the English-language popular cover is Bobby Darin's \"Beyond the Sea\"), the film itself is amazing.. You see, it is all just amazing, and I highly suggest you see this film if you haven't yet. A friend of mine, though, started to see it, but unfortunately stopped because of confusion, so, I will say it is a film you should really focus on (like knowing who's who--that might get a bit confusing) in order to take it all in, but I really think it's worth it when you do!
After reading the book, I really wanted to see the movie. There are quite a few versions of the movie available but I decided on this version and was pleased. It was very beautifully done and the actors were wonderful in the roles.
I would only recommend this to a true die hard Tom Hardy fan who is interested in seeing all of his past work. It's about Britain's most famous convict . Subtitles would have helped. But this is just an all around weird movie, not entertaining or useful at all, other than to see Tom Hardy. His best moments in the film are when he's onstage in makeup. I find him to be an immensely talented actor, very natural and brooding, reminiscent of Brando. Tom Hardy is the ONLY reason to see this movie.
