A little Extra Work For Me.
The exhaust hose is a five inches in diameter and only goes five feet. So, I had to buy a six to five inch reducer, some some six inch insulated ducting, and a couple of six inch inline fans to extend the exhaust out of my basement. Also, this air conditioner uses a NEMA 5-20P plug-in. Most houses aren't equipped with these types of outlets. I bought and extension cord and spliced the wires into the normal NEMA 5-15P configuration found in most homes. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A DEDICATED 20 AMP CIRCUIT FOR THIS AIR CONDITIONER. All in all, I spent about an extra hundred bucks to make this work for my basement. The machine itself performs well, but I would consider looking into the Supentown TN-12E 12000 since it doesn't need the dedicated 20A circuit. Also, I basically voided the warranty doing what I had to do to make this work for me, but this air conditioner works as expected and I expect it will continue to perform well into the future.
Ordered this product mostly because of the Energy Star Rating and found out it isn't true. I contacted their customer service department and was shocked at the Horrible Customer Service I was given. I was told to call my Electric Company about the Energy Value? I am sorry I bought this, because if this is any indication of how they treat their customers AFTER the sale, then they probably won't care if the product breaks under warranty either. Will not buy another product from them again and would caution any one else about how they deal with you after the sale. The only positive was a supervisor I spoke with that said he would take care of the rude Customer Representative that I had to deal with, but unfortunately even AFTER that I received a rude e-mail from them? At least they took off the misleading Logo.
Generally this unit is on the noisey side when running. I have yet to determine the cost of running it and will update when I know. I have been using it for several days. It is sufficient for cooling a 300 sq foot room; not 400. There is only one direction which can be diverted. Left or right. No up or down adjustment. I also called the company and asked why there is no info in the manual for item \"14.\" Nor warning about rain and not using it. It is a round cover( which happens to fit the outside of the exhaust.) When I called I was informed that I am correct when I surmised it is a rain cover. I also was informed that the unit should not be used when it is raining! Here in Florida, that is ridiculous. Not only that; but that would mean getting up out of bed if it is raining in the middle of the night, ( IF you can hear it with the noise level...) shutting it off first; to cover the unit so rain does not enter the hose from outside and create a serious electrical hazard!! When I questioned them, they had no answers. Poor design. Now I will research others to see if the same applies. For such an expensive machine; the company should deal with that. BUT TAKE HEART!! If you insist on purchasing one of these; take a trip to Lowes or Walmart ;); purchase a plastic square faced outdoor vent for a dryer. You can fit it into the hose opening and the insert ring will fit inside. It is the Louvre type (three rows top to bottom which flap when air pressure comes through.) That will solve the rain problem as they will close flat, or if the machine is running; will discourage rain from coming in. Instead of including a round cover; this company should include something similar.

Does the job
After reading many reviews, I decided to buy this model. It was delivered in just a couple of days. The instruction manual that came with the unit was for a different model. I was able to email the company directly and they sent me a pdf file with the correct info. The set up, even with the wrong instructions, was fairly user friendly. My only two frustrations are the noise - too loud to talk on the phone or watch TV in the same room and the other is that it does not cool off my tiny 400 SF apartment well. If I close off a few doors and use a couple of ocillating fans, then the temp is cool enough and at least the air is dryer. I used some of the white foam cushioning boards to help seal up the window along with the panel provided for venting. The unit is about 65lbs. Very awkward to drain the water without help.
