I have used the Shimano products for years and find them hard to beat at this level of price.. I use the 1000 series for light weight tackle on crappie and white bass. Does excellent job. Quick Fire action on the reel is a great benefit
Inexpensive reel but feels very nice and smooth. I was surprised by how how much I liked it. Great for freshwater bass fishing. It probably won't last forever but it's a great value for a cheaper backup reel or for a person just wanting to have some fun without spending a ton.
With this purchase I now have 4 of these reels. The Walmart price was SUPER! Store pickup was easy except that the computers in the pickup area seem to be non functioning more often than not. I say this because when I ordered the reels in the store the computers were down at Customer Service and when I went to pickup my order the computers were down at \"Pickup\". Other than that the salespeople were patient and pleasant.
This is one solid made fishing reel. It feels nice and cast out with no issues. The front drag works great and you can hold a lot of fishing line. This is my second Shimano reel and I say you can\u2019t go wrong with this one.
All the other brands I have are not as smooth and reliable as this one is. I spooled it with 12 lb floro and hooked up a Strike-King white and chartreuse spinner-bait with double willow leaf blades and caught 6 bass within 1\/2 hour in 3ft of water in Clearlake ranging from 2 to 2 1\/2 lbs. Fantastic reel. The drag worked perfect and never once did I have to readjust it. Highly recommend this reel.
The Shimano Sedona 4000 reel is very strong, smooth, and durable. I've used a 50 lb. braided line and a 30-40 lb. leader to catch Fluke, Porgy, Taug, Sea Bass, and Bluefish (less than 20-lbs). This reel can really handle some rather tough fights and always come out a winner. It may cost a slight bit more than some of the cheaper mid-size reels. But if you intend to have it around for a few years, it's definitely worth the extra money. I would strongly recommend this reel to anyone who does saltwater fishing!
I am very pleased with this reel. It has a very smooth retrieve and no issues with back lash. This is my second Shimano reel and this one is better than the first one. Shimano keeps improving on their quality of fishing reels. I am looking forward to using it this weekend, doing some trout fishing in western NC! Great price, Walmart had the lowest price with free shipping.
I have spooled the Spheros 4000 up with 150 yds of 40 lb power pro line (it just fit the full 150 yd spool). The build quality of the reel seems pretty good. I haven't been on the water with it yet, so I can't provide field-use feedback. I ordered replacement Carbontex Drag Washers with Cal's Universal Reel & Star Drag Grease to replace the factory drag washers in case they are not carbon fiber. If you expect to use the drag on a strong setting battling big fish, there were several online recommendations to do this drag washer upgrade. From my initial observations, it should be a good saltwater reel. I would probably give the Spheros a 5 star value rating had it come with an extra spool.
