The ideal choice for catfish, striper and other freshwater and saltwater game fish.
What our shoppers say:
PASS on junk
You get what you pay for. The real does work very well for what it is,but the pole is junk. Anything over 5 pounds is putting a strain on this thing and you can feel the pole starting to crack. I was expecting it to stand up to alot more abuse considering how thick the base is and the amount of leverage the handle gives you. Bottom line spend the extra money and get a descent pole. Dissapointed in this one
They sent me a closed face bait caster that is a dull pink. The description says open face spin caster in bright pink. Then the customer service rep told me that it was correct one and that's what I'm going to get if I don't like it send it back. She was really rude. If I were you I would not buy anything from this monopolized store that has forgot all about customer service and could care less about anything but you money. You will get what you get even if its wrong and if you don't like it tough. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE HANDS DOWN. Still fighting with them about it.

What our shoppers say:
This is a good reel for the price.
This reel is as good as the more costly penn reels I like the bait drag feature it has just wish it came with both spools being aluminum
I own two Okuma Coronada series reels and couldn't be more happy. When I saw the Avenger 40 series was available for less than 50$, I had to have it. I bought two and will use it for light to medium saltwater action, and if they perform anything like thier larger cousins I'm sure to be very pleased! The 2 year replacement plan was also too good to pass up. Happy fishing!
I bought 25lb/430yd size of this model as a secondary reel for deep sea fishing with a child in combination with 65 lb PowerPro. It is not a high-speed reel so suitable for cod fishing because of the light load for reeling. Rental tackle usually use a penn reel, which is too heavy to reel in even a few lbs of a sand shark without power handle. My 8-year-old daughter could reel in 3 lbs of cod and 2 lbs of cusk from the bottom of 300 feet with this reel. It is worth buying for the trip of once a year although braid line costs almost the same. Functional and durable enough as an entry model without ball bearing.
Inexpensive real but does the job. I have a 4000 for saltwater and a 2500 for freshwater. Both work very good and when they get enough miles on them it's cheap to replace.
The product did not actually look like the photos.
Penn reels are very good quality, so I knew what I was buying to begin with. The product was hipped very quickly and made the promised date in excellent condition. The Reel works great as I hoped. How I ordered a Red Reel, which I specificially ordered for the color. I already had a burgundy model and a black. So I ordered the red model as a way to color code my fishing set ups for me. I received a Burgundy color instead. Yet all specifications were correct, I was disapointed in receiving a Burgundy reel instead of the red. If this was a ladies dress and the color was off, I am certain the product would be returned. Color and appearance is important. So I am not as trusting in the Walmart ad photos going forward.
I got the 12k size. It's the best reel I know for saltwater fishing with a free spool switch. It was too big for WA coast down rigging so I exchanged it for a smaller size. Can't wait til it arrive! The 12k size is massive, my guess is that its for tuna and sails in blue water states.
I used this combo on recent vacation to Florida. The rod is medium heavy and came spooled with 25lb mono. I caught 6 small sharks with it and too many stingrays to count fishing from shore. The largest being a sand shark measuring 63 inches. The rod is great for medium duty saltwater fishing. For the money I paid I am 100% happy with it.
Not very good... a screw came out while casting it on my second trip using it. Luckily the pieces landed on the pier and I was able to find them and put it together again but now it makes a grinding sound when I reel it in. The fish I was catching were maybe a pound or 2 each. I had a similar problem with another shakespeare reel I got for my daughter. It seems like they are just not paying attention when they put them together over in China. The rod seems okay but the reel will be replaced in the near future.
The Classic Pro reel features 2 stainless steel ball bearings and brass and stainless steel gears for strength. The levelwind system will give you perfect line lay every time out.

Great Value reel for fresh or saltwater
My wife and I bought two reels for a trip to the gulf October 2011. These reels performed flawlessly as we caught and released in excess of 40 fish in two days. Would recommend this reel to anyone who needs a good reel at a very affordable price.
Counter-balanced handle with oversized paddle knob

Great reel
I have used these reels for over 20 years, never had any problems. I have caught everything from Trout to King Mackerel and quite a few sharks. I just wash them off in a bucket of soapy water and rinse with fresh water and wipe the reels down after use on my boat in salt water. I always carry at least two of these at all times they are my go to reels. Just do general maintenance and they will last a life time. You can pay more for some other brands but you can't beat Penn for strength and quality....
This reel handles superbly. The drag is very smoothe, and it is perfectly balanced for a spinner. I have landed many large fish, both in fresh and salt water and consider this reel a joy to use.
