I was encouraged by the recent movie of Steven Spielburg to see if I could get a good \"overview\" of Lincoln for my granddaughter. Hal Holbrook presented a great characterization of Lincoln the man. He seemed to have the mannerisms, speech, and \"story telling\" down pat. Just as he does with Mark Twain, he seems to have a wonderful gift of personality portrayal. The thing that was annoying was the organization of the mini-series. Each part was presented chronologically within that subject. So the first part was on his actions as president, then we get him as a young lawyer, then as a unwilling warrior. Consequently, we don't really get to see all these pieces interleaved in the right order and a more full-bodied understanding of Lincoln, his family, and the changes that time and history wrought on them. Well acted, but hard to follow historically. I don't think my granddaughter will enjoy, but we'll see.
