I ordered this movie for my grandaughter, she has been reading the book in her class (high school) as required reading. To her it was boring. I thought possibly if she watched the movie it might help it become more real for her. Best Idea I've come up with in years. She has now watched the movie 3 times. And can't wait to get to a new chapter in the book. Personally I have always Loved this book and movie. Hopefully she'll get a good grade. The movie is better than I remember it. Not grainy at all. very well re mastered.
Summer of '42 has a large amount of charm and tenderness; it also has little dramatic economy and much eye-exhausting photography which translates to forced and artificial emphasis on a strungout story.
The overview given elsewhere for this DVD is unfortunate. This story is about a young man who becomes smitten with an older woman, constantly finding reasons to try and help her, to talk to her, to be around her. More and more his heart is brought to the fore, beyond his unexpected desires, and he finds himself beginning to fall in love with her. On the night he goes to see her at her home to simply try and enjoy talking with her, he discovers something that changes everything; for himself, and for her. Ultimately, Summer of '42 has become one of the most iconic love stories ever told, deeply resonating in the hearts of an entire generation, and commonly so for anyone of any generation that sees it. It is haunting, it is beautiful, and is a movie I hope to one day own.
DVD arrived in perfect condition and ahead of the stated delivery date. Price was not too bad, considering that the price of DVD's is going down with the greater availability of the blue ray format. On the other hand, this pariticular movie is not easily available and, so far, is not available in the blue ray format. Still very happy with the purchase. Thanks.
