We bought this for our 8 month old princess. It is very cushy & comfortable. The padding is the thickest I found in car seats. The seat is a bit awkward to get the baby in rear facing even with it reclined all of the way. It is very sturdy with no movement with the latch system. But, unless you have a long waisted infant then the shoulder straps won't meet the top of the shoulders. Insertion of the shoulder belts were about 1.5\" above her shoulders.
We bought a graco infant carrier and I had no complaints... But then I started to look into her next seat when I came upon this model. I decided thqt it was the one for us and my husband had no say in it. My mother-in-law helped us a bit to cover the cost but it was well worth it. I would have paid the full price. We got it out of the box and it made the graco look so unsafe. The padding is great and looks solid. It didn't take me long to install (which dismaying a lot because I am horrible at directions.) The only downfall is that it is so big that it won't for in our small car rear facing, but will in our Santa Fe which still dosnt allow much space to get her in and out of. So it is a good thing we only have a few months before she turns 1 and I can flip it around. The latches also didn't want to fit around our hooks... Something to think about. My daughter likes it and I feel Luke she is safe which is all that matters.
I think this is a high quality & safe carseat but it just did not serve our needs. I drive a Lexus RX (bubble SUV) and I have a 20lb 13 month old. We wanted our son to remain rear facing as long as possible for safety reasons. But due to the height and bulk of this seat I could not see out of my backseat passenger window with the Recaro rear facing, so I felt that was a safety risk for my driving since we live in a major city with lots of traffic. Also even though my son is small for his age (5th percentile) his feet were kind of jammed up against the back of my car seat when he was rear facing. So I knew that it would not be practical to keep him rear facing in the Recaro as long as we would like. This seat has a much larger & non-detachable \"base\" that makes it sit up much higher than other similar seats. Plus it does not have any recline options. We ended up returning this seat for the Maxi Cosi Pria 70 and we are much, much happier. The Maxi Cosi Pria 70 sits much lower in the car and has a recline option so his feet are not jammed against my back seat. Granted the Maxi Cosi Pria 70 is about $40 more I think it fits my son and my car much better and we will be able to keep him rear facing until he is at least 2.
