It's all kind of cute. Maybe a little too cute, but it does have a nice circle-of-life ending.
The film itself is so charming that you almost forget to ask whether these people truly deserve our empathy. |

A film made today would have a couple of tanks and CGI the rest, but this 1966 widescreen epic actually used hundreds of real ones. Just 22 years after the actual event, military hardware was still available, and the director made full use of it.\n\nA real bargain from Walmart online for $5 with free shipping to your nearest store.

Like the Thomas B. Costain book, the picture is overdrawn and sometimes tedious, but producer-director Victor Saville still manages to instill interest in what's going on, and even hits a feeling of excitement occasionally.
Though it is lavish and sweeping in execution, The Silver Chalice, for all of its august and religious aspects, is not an imposing offering. |
