More amazing work from Gondry. If you're interested in a basic narrative, look away; if you prize inventive filmmaking, don't miss it.
A wondrously baffling jigsaw puzzle where dreams and reality struggle to find a fit, The Science of Sleep is the dream you wish you could have, if you could only remember it |

The remake/parody sequences are outstanding, but Black's all-over-the-place mania and Mos Def's bland orphan hero don't quite tie the rest of the picture together. Still, it has heart.
And the film ought to be funny, with Mike and Jerry recreating those films as home movies. But somehow it's not, the laughs are very thin on the ground. |

Yes, there's a little preachiness here, but it doesn't puncture the party mood. Or stop Chappelle telling dirty jokes about prostitutes, for that matter. Thanks to him this isn't just a musical feast, but a rib-busting comedy too.
Chappelle keeps things lively, joking on camera, punctuating the acts with gags , while Michel Gondry maintains our interest, focusing as much on Chappelle's energy and wit, and goings-on behind the scenes, as the gig itself. |

The film entertains for the most part and gives us a set of marvellous performances from this outstanding cast, even if it doesn't quite reach the near-genius of Kaufman's other writings.
Works marvel after marvel in expressing the bewildering beauty and existential horror of being trapped inside one's own addled mind, and in allegorising the self-preserving amnesia of a broken but hopeful heart. |

I wish Jim Carrey would do more roles this dramatic. This movie shows how amazing of a dramatic actor he is. It wasn't his usual \"rubber face\" kind of comedy, rather very serious and raw. All the actors did such a great job with this movie. Even better, this is the type of movie you'll want to watch more than once, which means you more than get your money's worth. You don't realize until near the end that the movie starts out near the end. It's brilliantly written and directed. You'll realize that when you watch some of the extras on the DVD. Watch the interview with the director and Jim Carrey and you'll learn a lot of little known facts and interesting stories about the making of the movie. If Carrey would just do more roles like this, then more people would realize what a phenomenal actor he could be.\n\nIt's styled more like an artsy independant film which gives it a unique look, along with finally crafted special effects that are so well blended with the movie, you're not sitting there thinking \"That's a special effect\". Instead, you're so wrapped up in the story without even realizing it. I very highly recommend this movie, especially if you've never seen it.
