Personally, I'm not a fan of black and white movies. I happend to be channel surfing very early one morning and stumbled across this movie. I watched about 45 minutes of it before I fell asleep (at 2AM). Don't let that scare you off. I was so impressed with what I had seen and disappointed with myself that I fell asleep that I had to own it and see the whole movie. The list of great actors is very long...from John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Sean Connery, to Henry Fonda and more! It really does a very awesome job portraying WWII. If you like war movies - you have to buy this one! If you love black and whites - you have to buy this one! If you love any of the actors - you have to buy this one! I was telling my Dad about the movie (who has seen almost every John Wayne movie made) and to my surprise he had not seen it. So, guess what Dad is getting for part of his Christmas gift!! I highly recommend this movie. It's a little pricey for an older black and white, but it is sooooooo worth it! You won't be disappointed with this movie!
A great WWII Movie...Test the movie in Store......
Hello, June 17th 2013, I wanted a Blu-Ray Widescreen Edition for a long time. So I had to Order the Movie on line at Wal-Mart, the movie arrived afew days later and I decided to wait until Father's Day to play the movie with my 88 year old father who served in World War II with The First Special Service Force a joint American and Canadian Army outfit. We placed the movie in a 2 month old Sony brand of Blu-Ray player and the movie would Paaaause at the 06 second mark and I was unable to veiw the movie with dad. The second disc with some special features did play perfect and was enjoyable. But when the Main Movie The Longest Day would not play we just watched an other moivie The Battle Of The Bulge, anothe WWII Movie on Blu-Ray. Also later we watched \"The Devil's Brigade\" with William Holden as the Main Star, A 1967 Movie. It is aboout my fathers Army outfit \"The First Special Service Force\". So inclusion this Monday afternoon June 17th 2013 I went back to Wal-Mart to the service desk and told the lady in charge the disc was defective and asked if they could try it on there Blu-Ray system in the store and she said I will call and find out if they had any more, well naturaly they did not and then she asked me what I would like to do so I just asked for a refund in full. I will purchase this on Blu-Ray someday again this summer but it will now be at local DVD store who will prove to me that the movie works on Blu-Ray or there will be a no sale. As I alread own this Movie on normal DVD. I have seen it a few years ago. This movie's producer thought his movie \"The Longest Day\" would help put and end to all Wars World Wide. But as history repeates itself and tells us all that will perhaps never happen. Untill mankind realizes we should all try to live together without war. The Atomic Bomb and Gas are not the answer to peace... Peace and Harmony is the real solution for the future of mankind.
This movie brings back great memories of my childhood. The school brought all the kids into the gym and we watched this movie on a big screen. It made a lasting impression on me. I wanted to go to Alaska so badly after watching this film. The movie has a fun atmosphere, and you really do feel like you're in Alaska. It's so much fun to watch. It shows a lighter side of John Wayne. It's one of my favorite movies of all time.

We have a television in the store for customers to watch while they eat the deli sandwiches we serve. Most of the time, we place old Westerns in the DVD Player as they are most suited for customers of all types and ages. My boss is a John Wayne fan, so it seemed natural to add to his collection...The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is a classic, indeed. With John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Lee Marvin, terrific storyline and amazing Walmart pricing...how could we go wrong?
