My 10 yr old calls this is an okay movie but admits there are scary scenes. My 6 yr old doesn't like the movie. It has quite a few scary moments and several very creepy characters, including the main villain Prof. 'ScrewEyes' who has a bolt or screw as one of his eyeballs, and there is a bizarre scene near the end that focuses on this -- could be disturbing to younger viewers. So the movie does have some sinister elements to it, including an evil circus run by ScrewEyes (he calls it \"eccentric\") which provides many opportunities for disturbing imagery. In my opinion, this movie is scary for little kids and possibly for some big kids. It does start out with a nice story and likable characters, but soon veers off into a darker -- at times, grim -- story. (Don't let the cover artwork fool you.) I don't recommend it for younger viewers, who unfortunately make up the movie's target audience.
Bana exudes downhome blokeyness throughout, but an hour of this will be enough for most, after which egomania fatigue sets in. Add another star if you're a petrolhead, two if you really like Eric Bana and cars, three if you're his mum.
"Santa" brought this movie to my son for this past Christmas. It was horrible I thought, and my son wouldn't sit down to watch it, normally he will sit through the entire movie (if it's actually a good movie). The whole thing just seemed "dark" and "dreary" maybe if there were more "light" to it it may have been better? I popped it in one time, and that has been the only time he has asked to watch it, and he didn't even watch the whole thing, he asked for something else 10 min into it. It didn't "catch" me either.
