Cut a ping-pong ball in half, draw a large black dot in the centre of each then carefully insert around your eye-sockets- you'll raise more laughs than this film manages.
Special effects don't mean much unless we care about the characters who are surrounded by them, and in this movie the characters often seem to exist only to fill up the foregrounds.
Photographed by the great Russell Boyd but looking drab and washed out for 108 minutes, the movie just gets by on heart and a conversation-stopping finale.
