James Gregory walked away from a promising career as a stockbroker to become an actor. Starting out on the Broadway stage, Gregory soon was filming in Hollywood. Known for tough roles in films such as The Manchurian Candidate, he was given the lead as police detective Barney Ruditsky in the crime series The Lawless Years. Later in his career, Gregory starred as Inspector Luger in the popular television show Barney Miller.
