In certain ways, Jim Rockford resembles the hard-boiled detectives from the 1940's: he takes on cases that start off \"innocently\" enough but become very complicated, gets beat up a lot, and is always involved with a pretty girl.\nOn the other hand, he does not carry a gun and often uses his wit and guile to solve the case. And he lives in a broken-down trailer home by the ocean.\nJames Garner provides his charm and humor to make this an enjoyable and successful series. Many of the plots involve scams, ruses, and fast-talking. One has to wonder, though, how he sustains himself when he often gets gypped out his fees and reward money. Nevertheless, fun to watch.
Purchased this Box Set \"The Complete First Season MAVERICK\" at my local Wal-Mart. Good price from Wal-Mart. Video Quality is Excellent, Sound Excellent. My ONLY reason this product does NOT rate a FIVE STAR excellence is no fault of Wal-Mart, but the words COMPLETE in front of first season. If the Music for the Historic Theme Song is present WITHOUT the song itself, as it was originally aired then it was a misrepresentation on behalf of Warner Home Video. Nowhere, on the front, back or side does it mention the famous theme song has been deleted.\nOther than that, everything is excellent, though the omission of the song removes some nostalgia for those who remember it in it's original airing.
