It is a great casting reel and reels in nicely.......unless you catch a fish!! The drag does not set correctly, I almost lost a small bluegill due to the drag letting the fish pull itself under some bushes. Maybe I just got a bad reel?
I have heard alot of great comments regarding Abu Garcia reels but they should take this one off the market. I own 5 of these reels and EVERYONE of them have failed. When you try to cast it will just stop about 20 feet out...or your line breaks off when you try to cast...I thought I was doing something wrong until I got on internet to investigate. Not worth the money. I have gone back to Zebco trying to find a low cost spincast reel
This was the first BC reel that I got simply because it was in my price range. I wasn't disappointed in it for a while. After about 4-5 months, it got jammed and I couldn't reel in at all. I took it apart and found that a screw had fallen out and got jammed in the gears. I also found plastic gears. Those were the only two drawbacks that I have had with this reel.
4 stainless steel ball bearings plus 1 roller bearing
Power Disk drag system
Duragear brass gear

::: Great Inexpensive Reel ::::
Great reels and I like that they come in LH, I usually get 2 seasons oout of these and if I took care of them no doubt I would get more time!\n\nI use a heavy mono 12 lb test and can easily hit a saucer sized target from 40-60' away. Very little backlash and have yet to have a serious \"birds nest\".\n\nI fish 45-50 days a summer with at least 4 hours on the water per trip.\n\nAs you can see these reels are up to the task!\n\nIf you don't want to spend the bank down to zero, this is the baitcaster for you.
The Abu Garcia 6500c3 meets all my expactations. I got it for a steal for $80 while it was on sale and got it shipped to my house for free thanks to home free from walmart.com. I use the 6500c3 primarly for bottom catfishing and so far the reel has performed well. It took a little time to get used to setting the hook with the instant-anti reverse instead of doing it manually like on my other reels. But trust me this reel can handle setting the hook on some very large flathead catfish here on the Ohio River. If you are looking for an all around workhorse reel that you can depend on for catfishing than this is the reel for you. I spooled mine with 15 pound mono backing and 65 pound power pro braid and the reel seems to handle this very well. I also upgraded the handle to a straight power handle which helps pull in the big ones off the bottom. I am looking forward to upgrading to the 7000ic3 for a larger line capcity. All in all I am very pleased with my purchase and will be purchasing future Abu Garcia products.
This piece of chinese junk is not worth 2.49, let alone 24.99! I bought this for my 4 year old grand daughter so we could walk down to the river and just toss a few hooks in. I got it out of the package to rig it up, and the line kept pulling out, no tension at all. I thought it might have come loose from the rewind mechanism, so I was going to unscrew the cover and take a look. Surprise !! It doesn't unscrew like a \"real\" reel ! It's glued shut !! Well, now she's getting antsy, so I pry the cover off to take a look (return VOID). Again, more glued shut plastic parts. By now I'm so po'd that I throw the whole mess in the trash can. I am also e-mailing Hank Parker regarding this junk. I can't believe he would put his name on this if he knew what it was. Bottom line..DO NOT BUY !!!
