Sillier than the Singer versions, Ratner's movie is also -- for this less-than-reverent X-Men fan -- more satisfying.

Much of the best dialogue, you suspect, was improvised by Tucker and Chan, who seem truly taken with each other and make a delightful, ordinary-extraordinary pair.

Three years later in the sequel, Tucker and Chan had found their groove, even if the movie did not have as many good laughs and great stunt work. Now, though, it is an awkward Greatest Hits Reunion Show, and neither one of them seem up to the task

Like Lethal Weapon, this franchise has become lazier and less thrilling with each instalment. Hopefully, unlike Lethal Weapon, they'll stop at Part Three.

The whole film plays like an outtake, and that I do mean as a compliment.

While the rest of it isn't really any good, it's certainly no chore to watch.

Tucker and his profanely funny verbal bullets ... are about the only reason to put up with this gratuitously violent, race-baiting, jumbled ripoff.
