Being a baseball fan involves repeatedly experiencing exquisite pain and exquisite joy. Well, there's a lot of both in The Natural.
An otherwise fine sports fantasy is dragged down by an overindulgence in sentimentality. |

For all its creaky-old-dark-house cliches, Insidious is a fun ghost-train ride, full of truly terrifying moments. But once it's over, it's forgotten.
Director James Wan here proves himself very adept at building dramatic tension and making you anxious about the things going on in your peripheral vision. |

This movie scared me 4 times. The ending is okay, but I wish all the ghosts and monsters would stay dead.

Caine's performance, so fervent, so agonisingly dedicated, actually gains in force and touching sincerity with the years.
Its plot has the elegant geometry of a Philip Barry play. |

History, melodrama, comedy and satire are skilfully combined in this consistently exciting adventure. Visually and dramatically it rarely sags, there's a vivid array of characters and though it's a film with issues, these never eclipse the human drama.
Moviegoers seeking a grand yet edifying entertainment, right-stuffed with what Kaufman calls "seriousness of subject matter and a wild humor that comes out of left field," now know where to look... |

Hackman is wonderful as an inarticulate man tense with the struggle to curb a flaring, mysterious anger.
The setting in early 1950s Indiana adds nice texture to the story, but the endless games with the usual ups and downs outstay their welcome. |

This DVD is excellent quality both in picture and tone and volume. It is a full screen movie, which I like better than wide screen. The performances of the actors are excellent. The story is very good and interesting.

A ponderous, incoherent horror mishmash that turns King's short story into utter nonsense.
The movie is so glum and flat-footed there's no reason to care. |

Very few of King's stories transfer well to the big screen. This one does. It orginally came out in a only online book format for free because they were trying to promote books online at the time (if I remember correctly it was 2000). I loved it and read it all in one night (only about 66 pages). I re-read it again when it came out in his collection and glad to have seen the movie when it finally came out. If you love King then you will like the way this movie turns out.

The film's oily overdefinition of various class and cultural categories is strident enough to betray a condescending attitude toward the audience. |

I owned this movie in vhs and wanted it in dvd. Your collection will never be the same again. Barbara Hershey is superb and of course, Bette Midler a classy lady all by herself. This is a classic and one to share with your children and family at the appropriate age.one

I love, love, love the Anne of Green Gables series. This is a great movie for the whole family. I originally bought it when PBS was doing a telethon and it was on VHS. Then the 3rd video came out. Now I wanted to get it on DVD so I picked up this series. It's just a great film to watch, I'm not great fan of the 3rd video, I think they could have went more in line with the books and I haven't watched the 4th Dvd yet but the first 2 are awesome:)

Sure, it's melodramatic and self-important, but Black swan is still a thing of rare terrifying, heartbreaking, surreal, monstrous and downright orgasmic beauty
Despite its wildly over the top approach to creating tension, parts of it are genius. In fact I'm sure it's genius. But I will have to double check. |

If you are reading this you are a period drama lover. I purchased this BBC video mainly because of the price. Although BBC period pieces are usually good, I was surprised; it was much better than I expected. Hugh Dancy is very good as Daniel Deronda, you really care for this character whose heart is pure. It is almost three stories in one. All well acted. Considering I am surprised the video did not cost more for I have purchased movies not near as good for much more.

What makes this an innovative film is Joel Schumacher's bold eschewing of the good-guy-verses-bad-guy Hollywood convention. |
