I like horror movies but the older I get I guess my taste becomes more conservative -- nerves can't handle all that extreme stuff too often (smile). So, this seemed like a much tamer version of the Exorcist and I like anything Anthony Hopkins is in -- it's like he can't make a bad movie. I really enjoyed this and wasn't plagued by that bad, creepy feeling I get after watching the Exorcist. It was just the right amount of scary without a lot of the gore and shock value. . I thought the acting was good, the storyline, and message was good. Side note: maybe it's just me, but I thought that Colin O'Donoghue who played Michael Kovak looked a lot like a young Jason Patric!
The only reason I didn't give this five stars was the ending not bad, but could have given us a bit more to go on. It's a great movie and I'm glad I have it in my collection now!!!
Purchased this to upgrade my DVD version to Blu-ray. The DVD is excellent but this Blu-ray beats it in sharpness and detail. The reds are rendered better here which is a good thing because red is a major color in this film.\n\nI'm disappointed with the case over it's DVD version. The DVD package is a beautiful presentation which gives the overall appearance that it's contents are much more expensive than it really is. Sadly, this Blu-ray, which copies the outer artwork of the DVD, is cheap by comparison. If you already have the DVD then you know what I mean. A suggestion may be to simply put the new Blu-ray disc in the DVD case, the DVD case being THAT nice.\n\nOverall, this is an excellent film and worthy of the Blu-ray upgrade regardless of the case issues mentioned above. Don't miss it especially now that it's under $10.
This movie is one of my all time faves. I like this new disc better than my old one because I can get captioning (the old\/original from years ago wouldn't allow it) AND the extra features are good.\nI will never get tired of this movie, Winona Ryder at her most beautiful, Gary Oldman at his scariest. Well worth it. I'll enjoy it for many more years I'm sure.
An elegant adaptation to the screen, with the play's qualities largely intact and great performances from Paltrow and Hope Davis, as her sister. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anthony Hopkins complete a dream cast.
This dvd is so poorly done that I couldn't look at it long enough to decide whether or not it is a good movie. It looks like somebody made copies of this black and white movie in their basement. The attempt to colorize it is absolutely awful. The movie is full of shadows and fading colors, the audio is horrific. Do NOT buy this product.
