Fox and Chestnut, with their fine looks and fine wardrobes, are all dressed up for a party that most guests bailed on in the last days of the old millennium.

Few recent movies have conceived their central female character more contemptuously -- a fanatic for a lifestyle that appears to have come from the bestselling The Rules and someone who is obviously set up for a satiric fall.

The story rattles along at such a lick there's little time to ponder the plot holes -- no mean feat in a film of this length and with so many fine actors competing for our attention.

A heavyset daughter who never talks but eats a lot is named Delightful, which is supposed to be funny. That pretty much sums up the movie's comic tone.

While Kingdom Come follows the formula for comic combustibility, it's even more inert than Bud, who at least comes to life for a brief fantasy sequence.

Likable but negligible.
