Nanajams - 5 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchase2/23/2014This is a very nice looking jar that meets and excesses its use. Love the look and use them for so many other things besides canning. All in all just a great jar 16 oz is a prefect size especially for a family of 2.
Pint Glass Jar
Shar54 - 5 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchase8/13/2014I have bought about a dozen cases of these jars for my canning needs. I DO NOT like the lids that come with them. I use a pressure canner and the lids bow up almost time. They do ok if you are not using a pressure canner. I give the lids to people to use for craft projects, they make great Christmas tree ornaments when you let the kids glue pictures on them or draw their own. I buy the high quality lids to replace the ones that come with these jars.

ninnycheryl - 5 out of 5 stars review9/11/2014I have been using these jars and lids for about four years now. I use Ball/Kerr as well. I have found absolutely no difference in the performance between Wal-mart jars, rings and lids and those by Ball/Kerr. I have had no breakage or seal failure--even in the pressure canner. I am totally astonished by all the problems people are having with them.
No issues at all.
WiseOldCronyWalmart Associate - 4 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchase10/26/2013I purchased four dozen jars. About a dozen rims and lids were damage and unusable, I substituted lids and rims on hand. As for sealing, they sealed perfectly. One thing I noticed was they jar were packaged with cardboard separating each row and NO jars were damaged. I went back to the store and got the last dozen on the shelf. Tried to order more and they were out. My pears and Apples jarred and stored for future use.
The jars worked properly
MAMACASITA - 4 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchase10/15/2014Great price. Using for storage not canning. But even if the lids are too flimsy to work for canning they are cheap enough to buy better lids and still be money ahead
perfect for needs

- 2 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchase8/25/2014one of the jars broke when I poured the hot water in it, the domes are too thin and will not seal . so I am having to process the jars twice when I use mainstay domes .
it was a bargin
Tootie4 - 1 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchase7/31/2014It took weeks to get this product on line, and in the store there is seldom any on the shelf. I had to go to Dollar General to purchase, 20 cases of pints and 5 cases of quarts, paid a little more BUT they were IN STOCK...........
disappointed
xxis - 1 out of 5 stars review9/22/2013Had no problem with the jars, but the lids have been a lot of problem. I used water bath with one batch and pressure canner for another batch to see if it made any difference, both batches had about half of the lids could not withstand the pressure and popped up causing buckeling. I think they are made too thin so they are not good quality. I won't chance ruining any more batches from now on so I will definitely stick to Kerr or ball. Just too much work to redo a second time.
Jars good, lids bad
JobossWalmart Associate - 5 out of 5 stars review8/5/2011Ive seen alot of negative reviews on these particular brand of jars, myself however, I love them for their style, durability, and most of all price. I have purchased 3 cases of these jars and despite a few flaws here n there as posted in one of my earlier comments, Ive had no problems at all. I was shocked to see that when I lost grip while lifting them out of the canner, the rack was tilted sideways w/the jars still on the rack but, despite this, not a single one of them cracked, and they all sealed. Im very pleased with these jars and will continue use of them for as long as their available, or as long as I can. **One advice tip that comes to mind to my fellow canners, always thoroughly inspect the jars prior to washing/using them. Highly recomended for the home canner,
Pfb13 - 4 out of 5 stars review4/2/2012The jars are a cost effective alternative to the Ball or Kerr canning jars. The jar walls are smooth which makes them mush easier to label than the Ball or Kerr pint jars. However it's recommended opening the cardboard box and carefully inspect the jars inside to ensure there's no chips or breakage and no missing bands or lids. I only use hot water bath canning and have had only minor issues with jars sealing properly primarily due to insufficient "head space" or over tightening the bands before processing. The bands should be barely fingertip tight. Once the jars have been boiled for the specified processing time, turn off the flame and let jars sit in hot water for an additional 5 minutes before removing them.
For commercial use and a lower cost alternate.
FPPRS - 5 out of 5 stars review7/11/2014I just bought out my local store of these for my business. The are perfect for waterbath canning or hotpack Ph canning. They work well for labeling my product for sale because they are flat. When I pressure can, I use these jars but substitute the ball lids, because the lids won't stand up to the pressure. A good value for the money, hope they restock soo
Good for waterbath canning
Canningandchaos - 1 out of 5 stars review8/7/2013I didn't have an issue with the jars but had issues with the lids. Many of the lids came out of the canner bent out of shape. I have canned for year and never had this issue. Canning is time consuming and it's frustrating to have to re-process. About 20% of the lids had this issue. Next time I will spend the extra money for the name brand.
Spend a few mor dollars
IAJess - 1 out of 5 stars review7/11/2011The jars appear to be okay. But, I suggest you throw away the lids and rings immediately and don't bother using them at all!! I had my lids and rings in a pan of warm water and within about 20 minutes, they already had rust on them. Buy the Ball, Kerr or Better Homes and Gardens brand lids and rings and trash all Mainstay lids and rings!!.HipBusyBee
- 1 out of 5 stars review7/21/2014I have been canning since I was a child with my mother. I am now in my fifties and have never had a problem with more than one or two jars not sealing during a canning season sealing. I brought 3 boxes of these and 1 and 1/2 are going the the trash. They do not seal in a pressure cooker or in a waterbath canner. Seal rate is less the 50 %. This is the first product under the mainstay name that I have hated. It would be sad for a first time canner to give up because of these lids. Its not their technique it's these lids
Don't use these lids
gardner20 - 1 out of 5 stars review2/18/2013I recieved some of these from a neighbor who no longer pressure/water bathed jellies/soups etc. I used them this past week. Of the 10 jars utilized, 6 did not seal, 1 broke. That is 70% failure rate. At first I thought after canning for 20 years, I must have really goofed on something. And could not for the life of me figure it out. Then I looked on the box recieved and said "Mainstay". Never having heard of them, I did online search and found out that they are well known for the exact problem I have faced. I will keep these jars, but for storage of pens, ribbons, anything BUT canning. Do not waste your hard earned money on these very poorly crafted mason jars. For the time and effort you put in to create meals for your family long term, ...
Don't use these for food preservation!
CanningAuntie - 1 out of 5 stars review7/23/2013I have never written a review for anything before but DO NOT waste your money on this. The lids do not seal. I just spent hours making salsa only to find out after processing that the lids don't seal. Think goodness I found an old package of Ball lids to re-do the processing. What as waste of time and money!!!!
Waste of money!!
nancyandkimble1122 - 5 out of 5 stars review12/3/2013We bought 6 cases last January for canning all different types of food, other than a couple of bent bands the jars sealed and are still sealed a year later. But I always inspected all parts of my jars and clean them and inspect them once again, so to only have a couple of bands bent, well I've had that same problem in the Ball and Kerr products as well. And my jars seem to always pop as I'm pulling them out of the canner or just as I am setting them on the table. But I also can mine outside with my propane burner cause I have a glass top stove. So for me they have always been a great investment and I will continue to use them. I hope this review helps and I hope that Walmart continues to sell them. Because if things keep going up in price b...
worked as exspected
queenfishter - 1 out of 5 stars review7/15/2014Do not purchase this product! I purchased a box two days ago for my home canned salsa. I now have pints and pints of unsealed salsa that I will have to give away before it ruins. The jar lids buckled and did not seal correctly. I normally use Ball lids and rings, but Walmart did not have any in stock when I was there. I had a bad feeling about them when I bought them, but I had tomatoes that had to be canned. I should have known better! I have been using the same recipe for years and have never had a problem with the Ball lids. However, the Mainstays lids and rings are JUNK! Do not waste your money on this product. Anyone who cans at home knows how much time and energy is spend growing, harvesting, and preparing produce for canning. I do no...
