In his 14th book, bestselling author Nicholas Sparks tells the unforgettable story of a man whose brushes with death lead him to the love of his life.
After U.S. Marine Logan Thibault finds a photograph of a smiling young woman buried in the dirt during his tour of duty in Iraq, he experiences a sudden streak of luck -- winning poker games and even surviving deadly combat. Only his best friend, Victor, seems to have an explanation for his good fortune: the photograph -- his lucky charm.
Back home in Colorado, Thibault can't seem to get the woman in the photograph out of his mind and he sets out on a journey across the country to find her. But Thibault is caught off guard by the strong attraction he feels for the woman he encounters in North Carolina - Elizabeth, a divorced mother -- and he keeps the story of the photo, and his luck, a secret. As he and Elizabeth embark upon a passionate love affair, his secret soon threatens to tear them apart -- destroying not only their love, but also their lives.
Filled with tender romance and terrific suspense, THE LUCKY ONE is an unforgettable story about the surprising paths our lives often take and the power of fate to guide us to true and everlasting love.

It was published in 1996 and spent 56 weeks on the New York Times hardcover best-seller list followed by another 54 weeks on the paperback list.

Sparks has had a string of New York Times bestsellers including: A Walk to Remember, Message in a Bottle, The Rescue, A Bend in the Road, Nights in Rodanthe, The Guardian, The Wedding, True Believer and its sequel, At First Sight, Dear John, The Last Song, Safe Haven and The Best of Me. Review by Library Journal (2009-02-01)

While stationed in Iraq, U.S. Marine Logan Thibault finds a picture of a mystery woman whom he tracks down on his return home. Sparks's (nicholas sparks.com) novel can be predictable, but his strong, determined characters make this an excellent piece of escapist lit. Narrator John Bedford Lloyd (A King's Ransom) handles the Southern accents with ease, believably voicing characters of both genders. Romance fans will enjoy this.

Rated 3 out of 5★ by Not my fav Nicolas Sparks Book. I got this book, thinking it would just like The Notebook or Dear John. But the first few chapters were boring that it was making me fall asleep, but it did get interesting several chapters later. But I don't know .. the first few chapters were just so awful. I got this for $5 which was a pretty good deal so for the price, it's alright. The book is disappointing, so hopefully the movie won't. 04/22/2012
