I bought this to expand my recording time on my direct tv dvr.It was so simple to hook up.Just unplug dvr, connect the external hard drive with esata cable to dvr.Turn on external hd first then plug the dvr back up.The dvr boots up in about 5 minutes and your all done. 2 tb of new drive.Had mine about 3 weeks and it works great.Very nice addon.

This is my second external 2TB Fantom drive, but the first to wear the "Green" label. I hooked it up via eSATA and then USB to my laptop and then UBS to my WD TV media player, and finally via eSATA to my new Oppo BDP-95 3D bluray player. Obviosly there were no Macs or Linux computers involved, so I was able to use the standard PC NTFS format right out of the box. Everything worked as advertised.

I have researched different websites and heard that eSATA data connection has a dedicated transfer rate (read/write capability) of 3.0GB/sec (3000MB/sec) maximum. Data transfer is then limited to the unit (Disc RMP speed, software, firmware, (spin vs. hybrid vs. solid state etc...)) All other units and products that offer eSATA (at this price) don't even come close to a 1.5GB transfer rate as with (Micronet GDP2000EU 2TB Fantom GreenDrive Pro USB 2.0/eSATA Desktop External Hard Drive). You (walmart.com) claim in the product description (as copied and pasted below) as follows "The Fantom External Hard Drive offers a Data Transfer Rate of USB 480Mb/s; eSATA 1.5GB/s". PS... I had trouble finding this particular product again on Walmart.com (maybe because they made a mistake???). I already ordered it (still taking 4+ days just to to process) and this is the only way I can find it again (the Pro series GDP2000EU) through my tracking number and then opening the link to the description. PPS...USB3.0 is not a dedicated port/terminal/bus (as with eSATA). If your running several USB3.0/2.0/1.0 devices it splits/divides the difference. Of max 5.0GB/sec your interface card will handle. It will only yield a portion of that speed per device when running more than one at once. (e.g. 5x devices at all USB3.0/2.0 etc. will = 1GB/sec MAX!!! per device. Your computer will split/allocate its resources of the USB cards and vary the transfer speed of each USB3.0/2.0 host interfaces/adapters). eSATA, however, is a dedicated port and will not have a reduction in speed no matter how many devices you have connected or running. estimated avg. eSATA connection is 0.3 to 2.0GB/sec with a max of 3.0GB/sec. Yes...USB3.0 is faster by itself but is not dedicated and only has a better speed when running one or two devices only. Once I receive and test this unit I will write a review.
