    This cast iron skillet can take high heat to sear steaks and then withstand 500 degree oven heat to finish cooking them. Also this skillet is great for cooking frittatas. It came seasoned but I did another seasoning by rubbing it with a thin film of vegetable shortening. Then bake in oven at 350 degrees for an hour. After seasoning, no matter how bad the mess, this skillet is easy to clean. As a suggestion to clean, while skillet is still warm, drop in about 1 tablespoon of salt. Using wadded up paper towels, scrub (tongs help if you have them) inside skillet to clean. Dump out cleanings and excess salt. I then rinse in with warm or hot clean water to wash out any residual matter. Then wipe out. To ensure no moisture is left, I then place skillet on a medium heat for a minute or so to burn off any remaining moisture. I store my cast iron stuff in the oven and leave them in there when baking or roasting other foods. Cast iron ware is superb!

    Years ago I threw away my cast iron pans for the "non-stick" cookware brand. I have tried so many so called non-stick pans over the past 25 years, and nothing compares to cast iron. I spent and wasted hundreds of dollars of which I now regret. This brand of cast iron is great. Absolutely nothing sticks and clean up is so easy. There will be no going back to any non-stick brand of cookware.

    It cooks food evenly and it holds all the flavor in. My grandmother and mother used nothing but iron cast skillets. They are the best to cook with!!

    • If you have got to the point that it needs a good cleaning and you have no choice but to use soap but then you would have to retreat the skilet right then. by boiling it out with water then coating it with oil and put in the oven at about 400 degrees for about 30 minutes. If it like it comes from lodgepretreated you would wipe it out when the skillet has cooled a bit then just put a little water in it to loosen up any food then wipe it out. Put it under hot water and clean with a brush or dish rag with the scrubber on it .It really don't take a lot of hard scrubbing . if food is dug in then you might wan't to boil it out remember to grease the pan lightly befor you put it up.

    • scrub it out with a stiff brush, or pan scrubber. with warm water. dry it and pour a small amount of oil in the pan and wipe it around the pan. Just don't let water stay in the pan when not in use.

    • After cooking, let it rest a little bit to cool down, then wash with hot water. Dry it with a towel and apply a thin layer of oil on it.

    • It said to wash in hot water, dry very well and then spray with a non-stick spray. (My guess is for next use.) I've done this and it works beautifully.

    • You really can't harm this pan ... it's indestructible. I use hot water & a scraper or stiff brush. If I do use a little detergent, I dry it well & apply a little cooking oil to the pan.
