Book Information

The following content was provided by the publisher.

There's no police training stronger than a cop's instinct. Faith Mitchell's mother isn't answering her phone. Her front door is open. There's a bloodstain above the knob. Everything Faith learned in the academy goes out the window when she charges into her mother's house, gun drawn. She sees a man dead in the laundry room, a hostage situation in the bedroom. What she doesn't see is her mother. When the hostage situation turns deadly, Faith is left with too many questions. She'll need the help of her partner, Will Trent, and trauma doctor Sara Linton to get some answers. But Faith isn't just a cop anymore, she's a witness--and a suspect. To find her mother, Faith will have to cross the thin blue line and bring the truth to light--or bury it forever.

Review by Library Journal (2011-12-01)

Atlanta police officer Faith Mitchell arrives at her mother's house to pick up her daughter, and the resulting chaos jeopardizes her career and life. Sheer suspense heaven for die-hard fans and new readers. (LJ Xpress Reviews, 6/17/11)

Review by Library Journal (2011-06-17)

Just in time for summer reading, best-selling suspense author Slaughter (Broken, Undone) delivers another fast-paced crime fiction thriller. Georgia Bureau of Investigation special agents Faith Mitchell and partner Will Trent reprieve their roles as criminal investigators. This time the offense is more personal. When Faith returns to her mother's house to pick up her infant daughter, she discovers a bloody handprint on the door, her mother's revolver missing, and her mother, a retired law enforcement officer, is nowhere to be found.

While Faith's child is safely stowed in a she'd, inside the home is a man laying dead on the floor and two gunmen firing at each other and at Faith. After killing both men, Faith is promptly considered a suspect by local police. As Will digs for answers, he uncovers an elaborate web of corruption among the cops whom Faith's mother once managed.

Verdict: Suspenseful, quick-moving, and dappled with Atlanta locale, each novel in Slaughter's Georgia series offers more insight into her well-crafted characters but can still stand on its own for new readers. Highly recommended for crime thriller and suspense fiction enthusiasts, especially fans of John Sandford, Kathy Reichs, and Patricia Cornwell.
